Abstract

This research is motivated by the problem of learning boredom and low student participation in the learning process at elementary schools, particularly at SDN 02 Tarogong. This condition has an impact on decreasing learning motivation, lack of concentration, and low student involvement in classroom learning activities. Learning practices that are still conventional and monotonous become one of the main factors causing students to easily lose focus and interest during the learning process in the classroom. In addition, less varied teaching methods make the classroom atmosphere less engaging for students. Therefore, learning innovation is needed to create a more enjoyable and interactive learning environment and to optimally increase student activeness in every learning activity carried out by the teacher in the classroom. This study aims to analyze the implementation of ice breaking innovation in student management and to examine its impact on students’ motivation and participation in learning. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consist of teachers and students at SDN 02 Tarogong. Data analysis is conducted inductively through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, and its validity is tested using source and method triangulation techniques in this qualitative research. The results show that the structured and well-planned implementation of ice breaking can reduce student boredom, increase learning motivation, and encourage active participation in the classroom significantly. Activities such as group games, simple physical activities, and puzzles are proven effective in creating a more interactive and enjoyable classroom atmosphere, as well as supporting an optimal, effective, and sustainable learning process for students comprehensively and consistently.

Abstract

Quality education requires professional and competent teachers. However, the unequal distribution of teachers and the low competence of elementary school teachers remain significant challenges in Indonesia, particularly in disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions. This study aims to analyze the factors contributing to the unequal distribution of teachers and its impact on the competence of elementary school teachers. The method employed is a literature review by examining 15 relevant scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025, obtained from Google Scholar. Data were analyzed using a thematic analysis approach, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the unequal distribution of teachers is caused by mismatches in academic qualifications, inadequate workforce planning, and limited incentives in remote areas. These conditions lead to low mastery of pedagogical, professional, social, and personal competencies. Therefore, policies based on competency-based teacher placement, continuous professional development, and strengthened monitoring and evaluation systems are necessary to improve the quality of basic education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the feasibility of a reading interest instrument and to describe the reading interest profile of elementary school students. The study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive design. The participants consisted of 43 sixth-grade students from an elementary school. The instrument used was a questionnaire based on a Likert Scale. The instrument feasibility was tested through item validity using item-total correlation and reliability using Cronbach’s Alpha. The results indicated that the instrument met the criteria of validity and reliability and was therefore appropriate for use. Descriptive analysis showed that most students were in the high category of reading interest (58.1%), followed by the moderate category (39.5%) and the low category (2.3%). Indicator analysis revealed that the highest score was found in reading enjoyment, while the lowest score was in reading habits. These findings indicate that although students' reading interest is generally high, it is not evenly developed across all aspects, particularly in terms of consistent reading habits. Moreover, the presentation of this reading interest profile can be useful as assessment data that becomes an empirical basis for designing a targeted and sustainable program to increase students' reading interest.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of elementary school teachers' teaching styles in supporting the learning process in elementary schools. In practice, there are still many variations in teacher teaching styles that have an impact on the effectiveness of classroom learning. This study aims to analyze the teaching styles used by teachers in the learning process, especially in elementary schools. This study uses a quantitative approach with a descriptive survey method. The population of this study were all teachers at SDN 1 Sindanggalih and SDN 6 Sindanggalih with a total sampling technique of 16 teachers. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire based on teaching style indicators which include voice variation, attention concentration, silence, eye contact, body movements, and changes in teacher position. The results of the validity test showed 16 valid items and the reliability test obtained a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.824 which indicates high reliability. Data analysis used descriptive statistics with the help of SPSS. The results of the study show that teachers have different and diverse teaching styles with a tendency towards interactive and communicative styles, although there is still the use of teacher-centered styles. These findings indicate the importance of implementing a variety of effective teaching styles to increase student engagement and learning effectiveness in elementary schools.
