Chlorophyll Response in Ipomoea reptans Leaves to Liquid Organic Fertilizer Application from Vegetable Waste Mega Nofitri Ikhwan; Prapti Sedijani; Rubiyatna Sakaroni

Abstract

Modern agricultural practices that use synthetic inorganic fertilizers excessively and uncontrolled can disrupt the soil’s ecological balance, reduce microbial activity, and disrupt plant physiological processes, so that the development of alternative, environmentally friendly fertilizers is needed. This study aimed to evaluate the physiological response of Ipomoea reptans to the application of LOF derived from vegetable waste, using leaf chlorophyll content and vegetative growth parameters as indicators. The experiment was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with treatments consisting of combinations of NPK fertilizer and LOF at different concentrations. The observed parameters included the number of leaves, leaf area, and chlorophyll content, and the data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s test and Pearson correlation analysis. The results showed that the application vegetable-waste LOF tended to enhance the vegetative growth of Ipomoea reptans, with the highest number of leaves and leaf area observed in treatment N0P3 (0 g NPK + 60 ml LOF). However, statistical analysis indicated that most treatments did not differ significantly at the 5% significance level. Chlorophyll content also did not differ significantly among treatments, although the highest value was recorded in treatment N0P2 (40 ml LOF without NPK). Pearson correlation analysis revealed a very weak and non-significant relationship between leaf number and chlorophyll content (r = −0.019; p = 0.916; n = 32) and between leaf area and chlorophyll content (r = −0.045; p = 0.807; n = 32). Based on data, there is a tendency to increase vegetative growth with vegetable waste-based LOF, although statistically there is no significant difference. These findings indicate that vegetable waste-based LOF has the potential to be developed as an environmentally friendly alternative fertilizer to support sustainable cultivation and improve understanding of plant physiological responses during vegetative growth.

Abstract

This study is a classroom action research (CAR) aimed at improving student learning outcomes on the circulatory system topic through the application of the Make A Match cooperative learning model. The study was conducted at SMA Negeri 5 Mataram with Grade XI students as research subjects. It was carried out in two cycles, each comprising the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research data covered the implementation of learning using the Make A Match model and student learning outcomes. Data were collected through teacher and student activity observation sheets and learning outcome tests in the form of quizzes and written assignments. Data analysis was conducted descriptively to describe improvements in the learning process and outcomes across each cycle. The results indicated that the application of the Make A Match cooperative learning model was effective in enhancing student learning activity and improving learning outcomes on the circulatory system topic. Therefore, the Make A Match model can be recommended as an alternative biology learning method to support active and meaningful learning.

Abstract

The tofu and tempeh industry in Abian Tubuh Baru Village, Sandubaya District, Mataram City, contributes to local economic development but also has the potential to degrade river environmental quality due to inadequate waste management practices. This community service activity aimed to educate community members and tofu-tempeh business actors about the environmental impacts of industrial waste and to increase awareness of sustainable waste management using the DPSIR (Driving Force, Pressure, State, Impact, Response) framework. The activity was conducted from 23–26 May 2026 in Karang Pande, Abian Tubuh Baru Village, through field observations, environmental problem identification, development of DPSIR-based educational materials, and dissemination of leaflets and posters. Observations revealed direct wastewater disposal into drainage channels connected to the Unus River, accumulation of organic waste residues, unpleasant odors, and visible signs of declining environmental quality. Based on these findings, DPSIR-based educational materials were developed and distributed to facilitate public understanding of the causal relationship between industrial activities and environmental conditions. The activity demonstrated that the DPSIR framework can effectively communicate local environmental issues in a simple and contextual manner. Therefore, DPSIR-based environmental education has the potential to strengthen community awareness and support sustainable river ecosystem management through increased public participation in environmental conservation efforts.
