Abstract

This study examines the impact of the mind mapping technique to improve students' speaking skills at an Indonesian secondary school. This study employed an experimental design, involving a pre-test and post-test. A treatment was given between the two tests, following the pre-test. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis by comparing the pre-test and post-test results to determine whether students' speaking abilities improved after the treatment. Through a treatment involving mind mapping, students showed significant improvements in speaking accuracy, fluency, and comprehensibility. The score of pre-test and post-test reveal gains in accuracy (1.2 points), fluency (1.37 points), and comprehensibility (0.83 points). The statistical analysis also demonstrated a significant t-test value of 12.59, further validating the effectiveness of mind mapping. Students expressed increased enthusiasm and confidence in speaking activities, highlighting mind mapping's role in fostering better communication. This research suggests that mind mapping can be an effective tool in English language education, with potential for broader application across different learning contexts.

Abstract

Mastery of basic competencies in Mathematics is a crucial aspect that supports students' academic success. However, field observations indicate that students' ability to understand mathematical concepts remains relatively low, which negatively affects their learning outcomes. This community service activity aims to provide guidance to students at MTs Muhammadiyah Nusa Puan, Buano Utara Village, in order to enhance their competence in Mathematics through a contextual learning approach. The implementation methods include the delivery of learning materials, question-and-answer sessions, group discussions, and evaluation through pre-tests and post-tests. The results of the activity show a significant improvement in students’ understanding of mathematical material, both in terms of learning motivation and critical thinking skills in solving mathematical problems. Thus, competence development through a contextual approach has proven to make a tangible contribution to improving the quality of mathematics learning in schools.

Abstract

This study applied speech act theory to analyze Surah Al-Ma'un, the 107th chapter of the Qur'an, to understand how its verses function to convey powerful moral and social messages. The research utilized a qualitative descriptive approach with a focus on pragmatic analysis, drawing upon J.L. Austin and John Searle's Speech Act Theory. Data sources included the original Arabic text of Surah Al-Ma'un, along with reliable English translations and tafsir literature. The analysis categorized the different types of speech acts found in the surah, including assertive, directive, expressive, and commissive functions, and explored their roles in communicating ethical and social meanings.The findings revealed that the Qur'anic language in Surah Al-Ma'un is not merely informative but also transformative, encouraging reflection, emotional response, and real-life action. The verses were found to criticize disbelief, hypocrisy in worship, and the neglect of social duties towards the poor and orphaned. This study also contextualized these findings within the Muhammadiyah movement, demonstrating how the Surah's messages have been translated into practical social actions such as the establishment of orphanages, zakat institutions, schools, and health clinics. The research concluded that Surah Al-Ma'un provides a blueprint for ethical and social action in Muslim communities, highlighting the dynamic role of Qur'anic language in promoting active faith and social justice.

Abstract

English literacy is a foundational competency for global participation, yet students in Maluku continue to demonstrate low literacy levels due to geographical isolation, limited educational infrastructure, and the absence of culturally relevant instructional materials, resulting in learning that feels disconnected from students’ daily lives and local identity. This study examines the impact of CTL-based English teaching materials embedded with Maluku cultural content on empowering junior high school students’ literacy skills. Unlike previous studies that focused on general CTL application, this study uniquely integrates Maluku local cultural content, specifically Hena Puan culture, into EFL materials for Islamic junior high school students in an archipelagic region with limited educational resources. A pre-test-post-test control group experimental design was employed involving 60 students from MTs Muhammadiyah Nusa Puan. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and independent samples t-test. Findings revealed a significant improvement in the experimental group’s mean score (52.23 to 79.43) compared to the control group (52.93 to 76.40), significance value 0.000 (<0.05). These findings suggest that culturally embedded materials increase student engagement and contextual relevance, accelerating literacy development. This study carries both theoretical and practical implications for enhancing English literacy outcomes and sustaining local cultural identity.

Abstract

This research employs a qualitative approach within an ethnographic framework to analyze the behavioral patterns, social interactions, and value systems of the multicultural community in Maluku, specifically the residents of RT 06/RW 17 Ulima Indah, Negeri Batu Merah, Ambon, regarding their practices of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) and patungan (communal funding) in the construction of Masjid Nurul Nisa. The study examines local wisdom in mutual cooperation, such as Malehar, Hiwait/Fitwait, Yomaalai Bamtusaoo, Masohi, Marhen, and Poompu Ompu, as well as communal funding traditions including Amban Mirim, Hiwait/Fitwait, Jiwaha, and Yalim. This research finds that these local wisdom traditions contain values that are fundamentally aligned with Islamic principles, particularly ta'awun (mutual cooperation), ukhuwah (brotherhood), and infaq/sadaqah (charitable contribution). The integration of local cultural practices with Islamic values has strengthened the social cohesion of the multicultural community and facilitated the successful construction and development of the mosque.

Abstract

Era yang dipenuhi dengan kemajuan teknologi, perubahan sosial yang cepat, dan pengaruh budaya yang beragam telah menimbulkan tantangan serius terhadap pendidikan karakter yang berbasis pada ajaran Al-Islam Kemuhammadiyahan. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah untuk membentuk individu yang tidak hanya cerdas secara intelektual, tetapi juga berakhlak mulia sesuai dengan ajaran Islam. Metode pengabdian ini adalah pemetahan analisis permasalahan, perencanaan, partisipasi dan evaluasi. Pentingnya nilai Al-Islam dan Kemuhammadiyahan bagi mahasiswa Universitas Muhammadiyah Maluku untuk memperkokoh pengetahuan dan karakter yang Islami dalam era teknologi digital.

Abstract

Pendidikan karakter berbasis nilai-nilai Al-Qur’an menjadi kebutuhan mendesak dalam membentuk kepribadian siswa yang memiliki kepedulian sosial. Surah Al-Maun mengandung nilai-nilai fundamental tentang kepedulian terhadap sesama, tanggung jawab sosial, dan implementasi keimanan dalam kehidupan nyata. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan menanamkan nilai-nilai Surah Al-Maun kepada siswa kelas IX SMP Muhammadiyah Ambon sebagai upaya pembentukan karakter sosial kemanusiaan. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan oleh Lembaga Pengkajian dan Pengamalan Islam (LPPI) dan dosen Universitas Muhammadiyah Maluku dengan melibatkan 67 siswa kelas IX melalui penyajian materi dan diskusi interaktif. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan antusiasme siswa dalam memahami kandungan Surah Al-Maun serta meningkatnya kesadaran untuk mengimplementasikan nilai-nilai kepedulian sosial dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Program ini berkontribusi dalam membentuk karakter siswa yang religius dan memiliki kepekaan terhadap permasalahan sosial di lingkungan sekitar.
