Abstract

Plastic bottle waste has become a growing environmental problem due to the high use of single-use products and the lack of community-based waste management. This situation underscores the need to implement the concept of a circular economy through a more structured and sustainable waste management system. This community service activity aims to implement appropriate technology in the form of the “Bottle House” as a community-based plastic bottle waste collection facility in Sukodono Village, Sidoarjo Regency, East Java. The implementation method consists of six stages: initial survey and problem identification, design of the Bottle House, socialization of the circular economy concept and closed-loop supply chain, implementation and operation of the Bottle House, ongoing mentoring and monitoring, and program impact evaluation. The results of the activity show that the implementation of the Bottle House has increased community participation in the sorting and collection of household plastic bottles. Additionally, this program has raised public awareness regarding the importance of circular economy-based waste management and maintaining the quality of plastic materials from the collection stage. Rumah Botol not only serves as a waste collection facility but also forms part of a more structured material management system to support environmental sustainability and reduce plastic waste generation in the community.
