Abstract

Indonesia has a risk of Malaria with the prevalence of 1.4%, incidence rate of 0.3%, and Annual Parasite Incidence (API) rate in 2015 of 0.85%. Bengkulu Province had prevalence rate of 1.5% and incidence rate of 5.7% with API rate of 2.03% which ranked 6th highest API ratein Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to determine association between knowledge and attitude with behavior in Malaria prevention. This research was analytical observational study with cross sectional design. Sample was randomly selected. Data were analyzedwith logistic regression test. The results showed that there was significant association between Malaria knowledge with Malaria prevention behavior (p value = 0,001; OR = 4,237), but there was no significant association between Malaria attitude with Malaria prevention behavior (p value = 0.392). The proportion of knowledge and attitude variables’ influence to Malaria prevention behavior variable was 17,9%.

Abstract

Background  The incidence of emotional, social, and behavioral disorders in children is quite high in the world, including in Indonesia. Therefore, earlier screening is necessary for effective treatment. Currently there is no screening tool for emotional, social, and behavioral disorders in children, especially toddlers, that has been validated in Indonesia. The Early Childhood Screening Assessment (ECSA) is a widely used and recommended instrument for children aged 1.5 - 5 years. This research aims to carry out a cross-cultural adaptation of ECSA in Indonesian (ECSA_INA) and assess its internal validity and reliability. Methods The study consisted of 2 phases: transcultural adaptation and internal validity and reliability testing on parents of children aged 1.5-5 years The first phase consists of the forward translation of original instruments into Indonesian, synthesis from experts and backward translation to the original language and then discussion by experts. Furthermore, pre-testing was carried out in 6 parents of children aged 1.5-5 years. We conducted the second phase of the internal validity and reliability test on 70 parents of children aged 1.5 - 5 years. Each respondent filled in ECSA_INA 2 times, with an interval of 14 days. Furthermore, the data were analyzed statistically with the correlation test of Cronbach’s α, Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) and Pearson correlation. Results The internal consistency was good (Cronbach’s α = 0.831). Test- retest reliability was good with intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of 0.867 (p<0.000). Overall internal validity is good. Conclusion The ECSA_INA is a reliable and valid instrument for screening social, emotional and behavior in Indonesian children.

Abstract

The Waste Bank Program is a community-based waste management initiative aimed at reducing waste volume and increasing environmental awareness among residents. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the initial socialization of the Waste Bank Program in encouraging community participation in Dusun Besar Village, Bengkulu City. The method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving the village authorities, waste bank managers, as well as residents who are both involved and not yet involved in the program. The research findings indicate that socialization efforts carried out through community meetings, social media, and direct counseling were fairly successful in reaching most of the community. However, the level of participation remains moderate due to obstacles such as a lack of technical understanding, limited supporting facilities, and uneven distribution of information. Therefore, the effectiveness of the socialization can be considered moderately successful but needs improvement through more intensive, participatory, and community-based communication strategies. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for local governments and community managers in optimizing the implementation of the Waste Bank Program in the future.
