Abstract

Access to safe and clean water remains a critical challenge in many educational institutions and local communities, particularly those relying on groundwater sources without adequate treatment. This community service program aimed to enhance students’ knowledge, technical skills, and environmental awareness through a workshop on constructing simple water filtration systems using locally available materials. The activity was conducted at SMK Darul Hikmah Kranjingan using a project-based learning approach that combined 20% theoretical instruction and 80% hands-on practice. Evaluation was carried out through pre- and post-activity surveys covering cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains. The results indicate a substantial improvement in student competencies, where more than 60% of students reached moderate to very good levels of understanding in the cognitive domain, 70–80% demonstrated basic technical skills in assembling water filters, and over 90% showed positive attitudes toward clean water and sanitation. The constructed filter prototypes functioned effectively in improving water clarity based on visual observation. Overall, this program demonstrates that practice-based learning in community service activities is effective in strengthening vocational skills, improving water literacy, and fostering responsible water use behavior. The program contributes directly to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).

Abstract

This community service activity is driven by the low level of digital literacy among rural communities, particularly farmers in Grujugan Lor Village, Bondowoso Regency, which poses a major obstacle to optimizing agrotechnological adoption. Most farmers still rely on conventional methods and utilize the internet limitedly for entertainment. The purpose of this program is to enhance the digital literacy capacity of farmers by optimizing Facebook Professional (FB Pro) features as a medium for disseminating agricultural information and creating income opportunities. The implementation method involved a participatory workshop (comprising 30% theory and 70% hands-on practice) attended by the Women Farmers Group (KWT) of Grujugan Lor Village. The activity stages encompassed field surveys, partner coordination, module development, FB Pro account management simulation, and practice-based monitoring and evaluation. The monitoring and evaluation results showed a significant increase in participants' digital understanding and skills, demonstrated by their ability to independently configure accounts and produce engaging agrotechnological content. In conclusion, the workshop was successfully implemented; hence, continuous assistance from field extension officers is highly recommended to maintain consistency in agricultural content production by the partners.

Abstract

The rapid development of Internet of Things (IoT) technology and smart sensors in the automotive industry opens up great opportunities in the world of education, especially at the high school level. This community service program aims to introduce Arduino-based sensor and microcontroller technology to students of SMAN Ambulu Jember through a workshop approach and project-based learning. The method used in this activity uses the PAR (participatory action research) method with an interactive workshop approach and project-based learning that includes an introduction to types of automotive sensors such as DHT11, HC-SR04, and LDR as well as sensor installation and programming practices. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in students' understanding of the concept of IoT and microcontrollers, as well as a high interest in studying the field. This workshop proves the effectiveness of the interactive learning model in improving students' technological literacy and readiness to face the challenges of industry 4.0.
