Abstract

The salted fish processing business is undertaken to enhance the shelf life of fisheries products in the post-harvest stage through processing and preservation methods, as well as to generate profit from the sale of salted fish products. These processing and preservation activities necessitate an analysis of the added value derived from transforming fresh fish into salted fish. This study aims to analyze the value added of processing fresh fish into salted fish in Rebo Village, Sungailiat District, Bangka Regency.  The research method employed is a case study with a census technique covering all salted fish business operators.  There are eight salted fish business operators who serve as respondents, categorized into two groups: large-scale enterprises and small-scale enterprises.Data analysis was conducted descriptively and quantitatively using the Hayami method to calculate the value added generated by processing activities. The results indicate that most fish species processed exhibit high value-added ratios (>40%), including lesi, tamban, ciu, and liban fish, while teri falls in the moderate category The high value added demonstrates that salted fish processing significantly enhances the product's economic value through the difference between output and input values, while also contributing to labor income and entrepreneurial profit. However, the variation in value-added ratios across fish species suggests opportunities for efficiency improvements and innovation, particularly for commodities still in the moderate category. Overall, the salted fish processing business in Rebo Village has strong prospects for development as a local-resource-based agroindustry to improve community income.

Abstract

The Agricultural Equipment and Machinery Service (AEMS) Business or Usaha Pelayanan Jasa Alat dan Mesin Pertanian (UPJA) plays a crucial role in improving farming efficiency through mechanization, especially for farmers without access to agricultural machinery. This study analyzes the feasibility of Cahaya Bintang in Muara Enim Regency from financial, technical, and economic perspectives through a descriptive quantitative approach. The results indicate that with total operational costs of IDR 741,933,333 and total revenue of IDR 768,000,000, the business generates a profit of IDR 26,066,666 and an R/C Ratio of 1.04, which indicates financial feasibility. However, the low profit margin highlights the need for operational efficiency improvements, such as optimizing machinery utilization, reducing fuel costs, and diversifying services. Other recommended strategies include strengthening cooperation with farmer groups, enhancing machinery maintenance, and institutional support to improve competitiveness and business sustainability.

Abstract

A follow-up study is important to evaluate the competitiveness of UPJA Cahaya Bintang through benchmarking analysis against similar business units in other regions. The results show that UPJA Cahaya Bintang has a well-structured organization and diversified services; however, it still lags in terms of financial feasibility, utilization of digital technology, and partnership development. The benchmarking analysis reveals the need for strategies to strengthen institutional capacity, diversify services, enhance human resource competencies in technology application and digital outreach, and reinforce partnerships to improve the competitiveness of UPJA Cahaya Bintang. This study recommends organizational restructuring with a clear division between technical and administrative functions, implementation of digitalized operational processes and recording systems, innovation in the diversification of agricultural machinery rental services, capacity building for human resources, and strengthening partnerships with formal institutions.
