Abstract

Pregnancy is a critical period that requires comprehensive knowledge and adequate health care to ensure maternal and fetal well-being. However, many pregnant women, especially in rural or underserved areas, often lack access to accurate information and resources related to pregnancy care. This community service program aims to increase pregnant women’s knowledge and awareness regarding essential aspects of prenatal care through community-based health education. The activity was conducted in collaboration with local health centers and involved 30 pregnant women from the X village area in the third trimester. The method used was interactive health education delivered through counseling sessions, visual aids, and discussion forums, facilitated by professional nurses specializing in maternal care. Pre and post-intervention questionnaires were used to measure knowledge improvement. The results showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge, particularly in Nutrition, danger signs during pregnancy, the importance of antenatal visits, and personal hygiene. Participants reported feeling more confident and prepared to manage their pregnancy after the intervention. This program demonstrates that structured, community-based education can effectively empower pregnant women to make informed decisions and adopt healthier behaviors, ultimately reducing maternal and neonatal risks

Abstract

Pregnancy, particularly in the third trimester, is a critical phase where women often experience increased anxiety, stress, and emotional changes due to physical discomfort and anticipation of childbirth. The role of husbands as primary companions during this stage is essential to provide psychological support and strengthen maternal mental health. This community service program aimed to increase husbands’ involvement in supporting their wives through structured childbirth preparation education. The program was conducted using participatory methods, including counselling sessions, interactive discussions, and practical demonstrations that involved both pregnant women and their husbands. Educational materials covered topics such as recognising emotional changes, stress management, effective communication, relaxation techniques, and preparation for public speaking. The results showed that husbands who participated in the program demonstrated improved understanding of maternal needs, enhanced empathy, and greater readiness to provide emotional and physical support. Pregnant women reported feeling more secure, valued, and less anxious when their husbands actively engaged in the preparation process. This initiative highlights the importance of involving partners not only in physical readiness for childbirth but also in strengthening mental resilience. In conclusion, childbirth preparation education for husbands is an effective strategy to foster supportive family environments, reduce maternal stress, and promote healthier maternal mental well-being during the third trimester of pregnancy. This approach is recommended as a sustainable community-based intervention to improve maternal health outcomes.

Abstract

Introduction: Reproductive health remains a significant public health concern, particularly in communities with limited access to accurate information and services. Health cadres play a strategic role in delivering community-based education; however, their capacity in reproductive health education is often inadequate. This program aimed to empower health cadres in reproductive health education through a community midwifery approach. Methods: A community service program was conducted using a participatory approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design. A total of 25 health cadres participated in structured training sessions facilitated by midwives. The intervention included lectures, group discussions, role-playing, and case-based learning covering adolescent reproductive health, family planning, and prevention of sexually transmitted infections. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-tests. Results: The findings showed a significant improvement in knowledge scores, increasing from a pretest mean of 55% to a posttest mean of 82%, indicating a 27% increase. In addition, cadres demonstrated improved communication and counseling skills during simulation sessions. The involvement of midwives contributed to a deeper understanding and the practical application of reproductive health education. Conclusion: The community midwifery approach is effective in improving the knowledge and skills of health cadres in reproductive health education. This model has the potential to strengthen community-based health promotion and should be considered for broader implementation.
