Abstract

This study examines the teaching of reading, writing, and arithmetic (Calistung) in the early grades of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) as a fundamental foundation for literacy and numeracy mastery. The objectives of this research are to explain the basic principles of effective Calistung instruction, to describe appropriate teaching methods, and to analyze the roles of teachers and parents in supporting successful learning. The theoretical framework highlights several principles, namely gradual and continuous learning, a concrete-to-abstract approach, student-centered strategies, and the integration of Islamic values. Relevant teaching methods include the phonetic method, syllabic method, play-based learning, contextual learning, and multisensory approaches. The findings emphasize that students in early MI grades are still in the concrete operational stage; thus, the use of tangible media and enjoyable activities proves more effective in enhancing comprehension. Furthermore, parental involvement in providing consistent learning practices at home serves as a crucial factor that reinforces students’ achievements at school. Therefore, effective Calistung learning in MI requires teachers’ creativity in combining various methods and strong collaboration between school and family to support the development of children’s literacy and numeracy skills.

Abstract

This paper illustrates that the basic concepts and principles of zakat from the perspective of Islamic jurisprudence are the main foundation in the implementation of this teaching. Recognized types of zakat, such as zakat mal and zakat fitrah, play an important role in creating social justice. The process of calculating and distributing zakat requires a deep understanding so that the goals of community welfare can be achieved. Zakat, with the function of reducing economic inequality, acts as a tool to create fair social balance. However, inhibiting factors, including ignorance and institutional constraints, can influence the effectiveness of zakat implementation in society. In the context of its impact on social development and welfare of the people, zakat has great potential to advance society and create a just environment.

Abstract

Islam in Indonesia has developed into an integral part of the social, cultural, and political life of its people since its introduction in the 13th century. Various local traditions in Indonesia have successfully assimilated with Islamic values, creating a unique form of Islam distinct from other regions. Practices such as pengajian, Maulid Nabi, and tahlilan reflect the blend of Islamic beliefs with local customs. Moreover, Sufi orders have played a significant role in spreading Islam through spiritual and social approaches. However, in recent decades, there has been an increase in dynamics between traditional Islam and more puritanical modern Islamist movements. These dynamics affect various aspects of life, including religious education, politics, and cultural expression. Studies on Islam in Indonesia highlight the complexity of the interaction between religion, tradition, and modernity.

Abstract

This study examines the role of Syahadatain as the fundamental basis of Muslim faith and its influence on the concept of obedience within Islamic Law in Indonesia. Syahadatain, consisting of the acknowledgment of Tawhid and the prophethood of Muhammad, is not merely a ritual statement but serves as an ontological, epistemological, and ethical foundation for individual behavior in worship and social transactions. The study employs a qualitative approach with library research, participatory observation, and in-depth interviews at pesantrens and Islamic educational institutions in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya. Findings indicate that internalizing Syahadatain fosters authentic obedience, enhancing moral integrity, honesty, trustworthiness, and spiritual awareness. Implementing Syahadatain values also has significant implications for public policy, character education, Islamic finance, and digital literacy in Indonesia. Major challenges include religious understanding diversity, fragmented educational authorities, modernity and secularism influences, limited resources, and resistance to pedagogical innovation. Strategies to strengthen obedience based on Syahadatain include revitalizing religious curricula, leveraging digital technology for education and da'wah, cross-sector collaboration, and developing role models among public figures. This study emphasizes that reinforcing Syahadatain can enhance individual and social integrity, support the development of a civilized, harmonious, and just society, and promote ethical and productive digital literacy.
