Abstract

Patient safety is a system designed to make patient care safer, including risk assessment, risk identification and management, and incident reporting and analysis. The World Health Organization emphasized in 2020 the need for increased attention to patient safety in hospitals. This study aimed to determine the relationships among patient safety culture, the work environment, and patient safety in the surgical ward of RSUD Jenderal Ahmad Yani, Metro City, Lampung Province, in 2025. This research used a quantitative, analytical, cross-sectional design. The study was conducted from 16 May to 28 May, 2025. The population consisted of 70 nurses working in the surgical ward, with a sample of 52 respondents selected. Data were collected using an observation sheet to assess work culture and questionnaires to measure the work environment and patient safety. Patient safety was treated as the dependent variable. In contrast, work culture and work environment were the independent variables. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test. The results showed that 29 respondents (55.8%) had good patient safety, 37 respondents (71.2%) had a positive work culture, and 35 respondents (67.3%) experienced a conducive work environment. Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between work culture and patient safety (p = 0.001) and between the work environment and patient safety (p = 0.018). In conclusion, work culture and the work environment are significantly associated with patient safety. Hospitals are recommended to strengthen nursing management by fostering a supportive work environment in the surgical ward.

Abstract

Proper and standard healthcare services will provide patient satisfaction in evaluating healthcare performance. Based on interviews conducted in December 2023 in the Surgical Inpatient Room at RSUD DR. H. Abdul Moeloek, Lampung Province, with 10 respondents, 6 respondents (60%) they were stated that some nurses did not explain the actions to be taken and were slow to respond to patient complaints. This study aims to determine the relationship between nurse services and communication with patient satisfaction in the surgical inpatient room of RSUD Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek, Lampung Province. This study was conducted in March-April using a quantitative method with a descriptive-analytic design through a cross-sectional approach. The study population was 83 respondents selected through accidental sampling (accidental sampling, also known as convenience sampling, is often considered a weak sampling technique because it does not ensure that the sample is representative of the larger population). Data collection instruments used questionnaires with dependent variables of patient satisfaction and independent variables of nurse services and communication. Data analysis used the Chi-square test. The results showed that 94% (78) of respondents stated that nurse communication was always good, and 96.4% (80) stated that nurse services were good. The correlation results showed a p-value=0.000<0.050, indicating a significant relationship between nurse services and communication with patient satisfaction. It is recommended that nurses continue to provide good, prompt, friendly, and always smiling services to patients.

Abstract

Performance is a measurable, both quantitative and qualitative, outcome for nurses who fulfill their responsibilities in providing patient care in accordance with their professional duties. This study aimed to determine the relationships among work experience, motivation, and workload and nurses' performance in the operating room at Urip Sumoharjo Hospital, Lampung Province, in 2024. The research used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach, conducted from March to April 2024. The population consisted of 37 nurses, all included as respondents through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using structured questionnaires completed by respondents and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-square test. The results showed that 28 nurses (75.7%) demonstrated good performance, supported by adequate work experience in 23 (62.2%), high motivation in 24 (64.9%), and a low workload in 27 (73.0%). Statistical analysis revealed significant relationships between experience (p=0.004), motivation (p=0.002), and workload (p=0.000) with nurse performance (p<0.05). The study concludes that work experience, motivation, and workload significantly influence nurses' performance in the surgical unit at Urip Sumoharjo Hospital. It is recommended that hospital management pay greater attention to enhancing nurse motivation and managing workloads to improve the quality of nursing services provided to patients.

Abstract

Probiotic supplementation has gained increasing attention as a strategy to improve gut health by modulating the intestinal microbiota, strengthening the gut barrier, and regulating immune responses. However, probiotic efficacy is strain-specific, and evidence comparing the benefits of different probiotic species remains limited. This comprehensive review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of specific probiotic strains in improving gut health and managing gastrointestinal disorders. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science using the keywords probiotics, gut health, microbiome, intestinal barrier, and gastrointestinal disorders. Following predefined eligibility criteria, clinical and experimental studies investigating strain-specific probiotic effects were screened. After full-text review, we included 12 relevant articles for qualitative synthesis. Data were evaluated according to probiotic strain, intervention characteristics, gut health outcomes, and proposed mechanisms. The findings indicate that probiotic efficacy depends on the strain. Lactobacillus species consistently improved intestinal barrier function and reduced diarrhea, whereas Bifidobacterium species enhanced microbial diversity and immune regulation. Saccharomyces boulardii demonstrated the strongest evidence for preventing antibiotic-associated diarrhea and recurrent gastrointestinal infections. Multi-strain formulations generally produced broader benefits than single-strain probiotics through complementary mechanisms. Both dairy- and plant-based probiotic formulations were effective delivery systems, although plant-based products are better suited to lactose-intolerant and vegan populations. In conclusion, probiotics provide measurable benefits for gastrointestinal health, but clinical outcomes depend largely on selecting appropriate strains. Current evidence supports Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, and Saccharomyces boulardii as the probiotic strains with the most consistent benefits for gut health. Further well-designed randomized controlled trials are needed to establish strain-specific clinical recommendations.
