Abstract

Quranic proverbs are one method of conveying divine messages used to facilitate human understanding of the meaning of verses. The parables in the Quran not only function as a beauty of language, but also contain profound educational, reflective, and argumentative values. However, not all readers are able to understand the meaning of proverbs correctly without an adequate scientific approach. This study aims to analyze the concept of Quranic proverbs, their characteristics, and their function in understanding the meaning of verses. This study uses a literature study method (library research) with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data sources in this study consist of books, scientific journals, Quranic commentaries, and other literature relevant to the research topic. The results show that Quranic proverbs have various forms, such as proverbs musarrahah, kaminah, and mursalah, each of which has its own characteristics. In addition, proverbs function to facilitate understanding, strengthen messages, and provide lessons (ibrah) for their readers. Thus, understanding Quranic proverbs is crucial for interpreting verses more deeply, contextually, and with greater applicability to everyday life.

Abstract

The study of hadith is always closely related to the analysis of the sanad (chain of transmission) as a chain of narrators that connects the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and subsequent generations. With the emergence of hadith forgery, the expansion of Islamic territory, and the increasing need for hadith codification, verification of the validity of the sanad has become a major urgency in the Islamic scholarly tradition. Sanad criticism is the primary method in hadith science used to assess the level of validity and reliability of the transmission line by tracing the integrity, competence, and continuity of the narrators. This study aims to comprehensively outline the concept of sanad criticism by discussing the definition, urgency, scope, and steps used by scholars in determining the quality of a sanad. The research method used is a qualitative approach based on library research by analyzing classical and contemporary sources in the field of hadith science, particularly those related to sanad criticism. The results of the study indicate that sanad criticism functions as a scientific instrument that distinguishes authentic sanads that can be used as evidence from weak or problematic ones. The object of study covers the entire chain of narrators, taking into account aspects of fairness, accuracy of memorization, and continuity of the transmission process. The application of sanad criticism to the hadith about the virtues of fasting on Mondays and Thursdays shows that the sanad of the hadith is in the category of ḥasan li-dzātih and, with the existence of supporting lines (mutāba‘āt), approaches the quality of ṣaḥīḥ, making it worthy of being used as evidence in the practice of sunnah worship. Thus, sanad criticism not only maintains the purity of the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, but also becomes an important foundation in ensuring the validity of the hadith in the construction of Islamic law, both in the classical and contemporary eras.

Abstract

Fasting is an act of worship in Islam that not only has a ritual dimension but also contains social values relevant to community life. However, in practice, fasting is often understood narrowly as an act of abstaining from hunger and thirst, so its social values are not fully realized in everyday life. This article aims to examine the interpretation of the verses on fasting in Surah Al-Baqarah, verses 183–187, and analyze their relevance to contemporary social life. This research uses a qualitative approach with library research through a review of the Quran, commentaries, and relevant literature. The results indicate that fasting, from a Quranic perspective, aims not only to foster individual piety but also social piety, reflected in empathy, solidarity, self-control, and concern for others. These values have strong relevance in addressing the challenges of modern social life, so fasting needs to be understood and implemented more comprehensively as a means of moral and social development.
