Abstract

Background: Child development is an important factor. The success of each phase affects the child's ability in the next phase. The low level of knowledge, attitudes and actions of parents about growth, and development disorders can cause deviations in growth, development, and mental and emotional disorders. Objectives: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the PrimaKu application on the behavior (knowledge, attitudes, and actions) of parents in monitoring the growth and development of toddlers in the Panincong Health Center Work Area, Soppeng Regency. Methods: The research design used a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group pre and post-test design. The sample consisted of 36 respondents who were divided into the intervention and control groups. Data were analyzed using T-test. Results: The results showed that there was an effect of the PrimaKu application on the knowledge (p-value = 0.0001), attitudes (p-value = 0.0001) and actions (p value = 0.0001) of parents in monitoring the growth and development of toddlers, there was an average difference knowledge (p-value = 0.007 ), attitudes (p-value = 0.007) and actions (p-value = 0.028) of parents in the intervention group and control group (p-value = 0.0001). Conclusion: Parents should be able to use the PrimaKu application to improve behavior (knowledge, attitudes, and actions) in monitoring the growth and development of toddlers.

Abstract

Background: Excessive use of gadgets among children has negative impacts, such as reduced social interaction, learning disorders, sleep disturbances, vision problems, and radiation risks. Parental mediation strategies and digital literacy can help prevent excessive gadget use in children. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between parental mediation, family functioning, and parental digital literacy with gadget use among school-aged children. Methods: The research design employed a descriptive analytic approach with a cross-sectional method. The study sample consisted of school-aged children from elementary schools in Karawang District, selected using purposive sampling with a total of 149 respondents. Data analysis was conducted using the chi-square test followed by multiple logistic regression with a significance level of < 0.05. Results: The study results showed that, in the bivariate analysis, there was a relationship between parental mediation, family functioning, and parental digital literacy with gadget use among children (p-value < 0.05). The multiple logistic regression test results indicated that the variable most associated with gadget use among children was parental mediation. Conclusion: This study is expected to serve as a reference for nurses to assist parents in applying parental mediation techniques and enhancing digital literacy socialization to prevent excessive gadget use in children.

Abstract

Parenting motivation is a critical factor in managing child behavior, as socioeconomic conditions often influence parental emotional responses and children's development. This study aims to analyze the impact of education level, occupation, and income on parental motivation and how this motivation subsequently influences the occurrence of temper tantrums in children with special needs. This research employed a quantitative path analysis design with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at a Special Needs Primary School (SDLB) in Situbondo Regency, involving a total of 47 respondents selected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected via validated questionnaires and analyzed using multivariate linear regression to determine the mediating role of parental motivation. The findings reveal that socioeconomic factors significantly influence parental motivation, with path coefficients of 0.896 for education level, 2.062 for occupation, and 2.396 for income. Furthermore, parental motivation was found to have a direct and significant role in addressing temper tantrum issues, with a path coefficient of 0.68. Statistical analysis indicates that education, occupation, and income do not have a significant direct impact on temper tantrums in the absence of parental motivation. Parental motivation acts as a vital mediator between socioeconomic factors and the management of temper tantrums in children with special needs. The study underscores that while socioeconomic status provides a foundation, it is the parent’s internal motivation to accept and nurture their child that ultimately determines behavioral outcomes.
