Abstract

Improving the quality of education in schools, especially in literacy and numeracy, is an ongoing challenge in line with the demands of the educational world and the need for 21st-century skills. Literacy, which includes the ability to read, write, and comprehend information, as well as numeracy related to mathematical concepts, is a fundamental competency that plays a crucial role in students' cognitive development. At SMP Negeri 4 Kota Bengkulu, efforts to address this challenge have been made by optimizing the use of a greenhouse as an environmentally-based learning tool. The greenhouse not only introduces scientific concepts but also teaches practical skills related to environmental management and sustainability. Utilizing the greenhouse in education provides students with the opportunity to engage directly in plant cultivation processes, while also introducing numeracy concepts such as measurement and plant growth data analysis. Additionally, game-based learning media such as Stand for Word and Ular Tangga Numerasi are used to enhance students' literacy and numeracy skills in a fun and effective way. Stand for Word sharpens language skills, while Ular Tangga Numerasi is designed to improve basic mathematical skills. Both media support the development of collaborative and critical thinking skills, which are essential in 21st-century learning. Through the integration of environmental-based and technological learning methods, it is hoped that students will not only improve their literacy and numeracy skills but also raise their awareness of the importance of biodiversity and environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Science learning in schools tends to be theoretical and less related to real contexts, so students have difficulty understanding the application of concepts in everyday life. One of the causes is the lack of teaching materials that integrate local wisdom. This study aims to examine the concepts of science in the local wisdom of making Batik Besurek to be developed as ethnoscience content in integrated science e-books and to determine the level of validity and student response to the product. The method used is research and development (R&D), according to Borg and Gall (1983), using the Model of Educational Reconstruction (MER) approach. Data were obtained through questionnaires, observations, and interviews. The results of the study showed that the process of making Batik Besurek contains the concepts of temperature and heat, expansion, changes in the state of matter, physical changes, heat transfer, and Black's principle, which can be integrated into the content of the Integrated Science Electronic Book. The developed electronic book obtained a very high level of validity with an average V index of 0.86 and a percent agreement of 89.27%. The students' response to the book was also excellent, with an average percentage of 89.42%. The results concluded that the Integrated Science electronic book containing the ethnoscience of Batik Besurek Bengkulu was considered valid teaching material worthy of being tested for effectiveness in future research.
