Abstract

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease caused by damage and thinning of the cartilage that protects the ends of bones, resulting in friction between bones and causing pain, stiffness, and swelling, especially in the knees, hips, spine, and fingers. Globally, approximately 528 million people live with osteoarthritis. In Indonesia, the prevalence of osteoarthritis reaches 15.5% in men and 12.7% in women. In West Sumatra, the prevalence reaches 12.7%, with the highest rates found in Pesisir Selatan and Padang Pariaman Regencies. Based on data from the Sabai Nan Aluih Sicincin Social Home for the Elderly in Padang Pariaman Regency, there were seven elderly individuals diagnosed with osteoarthritis. This study aimed to provide geriatric nursing care for patients with osteoarthritis. The research method used was a case study conducted on one managed client from February 11–16, 2026 through observation, interviews, physical examinations, and documentation studies. The results identified nursing problems including chronic pain, impaired physical mobility, and self-care deficits. Interventions provided included pain management, mobilization support, and self-care support. After five days of implementation, the client’s condition improved as indicated by reduced pain levels, increased physical mobility, and improved self-care ability although partial assistance was still needed. It is expected that elderly patients with osteoarthritis will continue independent care practices such as warm compresses, deep breathing techniques, light massage, and range of motion (ROM) exercises.

The implementation included providing non-pharmacological techniques to reduce pain, encouraging range of motion, and modifying the environment to increase comfort. Evaluations of chronic pain, impaired physical mobility, and disturbed sleep patterns were continued and accompanied by caregivers. The conclusion of this case study is that appropriate and continuous nursing care can help reduce pain, increase mobility, and improve the patient's sleep quality. Recommendations are aimed at patients to be able to independently perform non-pharmacological pain management techniques, perform simple mobilization independently, and take medication regularly as prescribed by the doctor. Abstract

Stroke is the leading cause of disability in the world and ranks second as a cause of death after heart disease. Data shows that every year there are around 13.7 million new cases of stroke with a death rate reaching approximately 5.5 million people. Data obtained at the PSTW Sabai Nan Aluih Sicincin, Padang Pariaman Regency, shows that stroke ranks fourth with a total of 12 cases. The purpose of this researcher is to provide nursing care to patients with stroke at the Sabai Nan Aluih Sicincin Social Home for the Elderly, Padang Pariaman Regency. The research method used is a case study on one client with a nursing process approach that includes assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The assessment was conducted on February 11–16, 2026. The results of the assessment showed that the client experienced impaired physical mobility, self-care deficits, and a risk of falling due to muscle weakness and balance disorders. Interventions provided included Range of Motion (ROM) exercises, assistance with daily activities, health education, and fall risk prevention. The evaluation results obtained after 5 days of implementation showed an increase in nursing problems, with muscle strength in the right lower extremity being 3%, an increase in self-care skills, and a decrease in the risk of falls. The conclusion of this study is that comprehensive geriatric nursing care can help improve the functional abilities of elderly people with stroke. It is recommended that clients and caregivers regularly exercise, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and undergo regular health checks to prevent complications and stroke recurrence.

Nursing interventions included pain management using deep breathing relaxation techniques, progressive muscle exercises, blood pressure monitoring, health education, a low-salt diet, and fall risk prevention. Nursing evaluation showed an increase in the patient’s knowledge regarding hypertension and the importance of adherence to treatment. After five days of nursing interventions, there was a decrease in pain intensity, improved therapy adherence, and improvement in the patient’s general condition.
