Abstract

This study explores the dynamics of sustainable tourism in Bali from 2022 to 2026, a critical period for post-pandemic recovery and paradigm shifting. Using a qualitative thematic analysis approach, the study reviewed 30 peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2022 and 2026. The articles were identified through a systematic search of the Google Scholar database using keywords related to sustainable tourism in Bali and were selected based on relevance to sustainability practices, governance, environmental management, and cultural preservation. Findings reveal a significant transition toward community-based and spiritual tourism models, driven by local wisdom such as Tri Hita Karana. However, the analysis identifies a persistent 'institutional gap' caused by regulatory fragmentation between governmental authorities and traditional village leadership (Desa Adat). While ecological crises have accelerated the adoption of decarbonization strategies, digital technology integration remains a double-edged sword, risking cultural commodification. This study contributes to the sustainable tourism literature by providing a thematic synthesis of recent research and highlighting the importance of governance coordination, environmental management, and culturally sensitive digital innovation in supporting sustainable tourism development in Bali.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of digital technologies and circular economy principles to support Bali’s transition toward a low-carbon tourism destination. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach with secondary data analysis, the research synthesizes evidence from academic literature, government policies, and industry reports to explore how smart and green tourism can be effectively operationalized. The findings demonstrate that digital technologies including IoT, big data, artificial intelligence, and VR/AR play a pivotal role in improving energy efficiency, optimizing transportation flows, enabling smart waste management, and preserving cultural heritage, while simultaneously enhancing visitor experiences and destination competitiveness. In parallel, circular economy practices such as waste reduction, recycling, eco-design, and resource efficiency address pressing environmental challenges while also strengthening local economies, cultural industries, and community resilience. Despite progress, Bali’s implementation remains partial and fragmented, constrained by weak market demand for eco-friendly products, limited infrastructure, and low community literacy regarding sustainability practices. Theoretically, this study enriches sustainable tourism literature by advancing an integrative framework that connects smart and green paradigms. Practically, it offers strategic insights for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and local communities to enhance competitiveness while safeguarding cultural identity and ecological sustainability. The study concludes that Bali’s pathway to sustainable tourism requires stronger regulations, fiscal incentives, digital literacy programs, and collaborative governance to build a holistic low-carbon ecosystem.

Abstract

This study presents a comparative evaluation of Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) models for tourism sentiment classification, using YouTube comments related to Tanah Lot, Bali. The dataset manually cleaned comments labeled as Positive, Neutral, or Negative. Both models achieved identical overall accuracy (0.95), but class-wise analysis revealed substantial differences: LSTM exhibited strong bias toward the majority class (Neutral), failing to detect minority sentiments, while SVM retained partial sensitivity to Positive and Negative classes. These findings highlight the limitations of deep learning architectures under low-resource and imbalanced conditions and underscore the importance of context-aware model selection. Class-wise evaluation metrics are essential for capturing minority sentiment, which is critical for destination governance and informed decision-making in tourism management.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examined the Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills gap among event professionals in Indonesia and aimed to develop a contextual training framework to address this issue. Method: A qualitative descriptive approach was employed through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with event professionals in Bali and Jakarta. Result: The findings indicated that although AI was widely perceived as useful for improving efficiency, significant skill gaps remained at both operational levels (e.g., prompt engineering and content creation) and strategic levels (e.g., data analytics and AI integration). These gaps were primarily influenced by limited time, high workload, and resistance to technological change. Furthermore, existing training programs were often too generic and lacked practical relevance. Contribution: This study contributes theoretically to the AI skills gap literature and practically offers a structured, context-specific training framework that is flexible and application-oriented, incorporating micro-learning formats, case-based learning, and industry practitioner involvement to enhance workforce readiness in the event industry.
