Abstract

Physical condition is an important factor influencing volleyball performance, particularly in competitive events such as POMNAS 2025. An evaluation of athletes’ physical profiles is necessary to identify strengths and weaknesses that may affect performance during competition. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the physical condition of volleyball athletes from Sriwijaya University participating in POMNAS 2025. This study employed a quantitative descriptive method involving 12 male volleyball athletes. The instruments used were based on the standards of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, including tests of flexibility (sit and reach), muscular strength (push-up, sit-up, and left-right hop tests), explosive power (vertical jump and medicine ball throw), speed (20 m sprint), agility (shuttle run), and endurance (beep test). The findings revealed that several physical components were still categorized as low, particularly flexibility, speed, and endurance. In contrast, upper-body strength showed relatively better results, while explosive power and agility were generally in the adequate category. These findings indicate that the athletes possess varying levels of physical readiness, with some components still requiring improvement to support optimal volleyball performance. In conclusion, the physical condition of the athletes has not yet reached an optimal level in several key components. Therefore, coaches are recommended to develop more structured and specific training programs focusing on flexibility, speed, and endurance enhancement to improve competitive performance.

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the physical condition profile of male indoor hockey athletes South Sumatera. This research employed a quantitative descriptive method involving 12 male athletes as research subjects. The physical condition components assessed included anthropometry using Body Mass Index (BMI), endurance using the Balke Test, muscular strength using push-up and sit-up tests, speed using a 20-meter sprint test, agility using a shuttle run test, flexibility using a sit and reach test, and explosive power using medicine ball throw and vertical jump tests. The results showed that the athletes had an average BMI score of 22.10, with 91.7% categorized as normal. The average endurance score was 33.96, indicating that 100% of athletes were in the very poor category. Muscular strength assessment showed an average push-up score of 18 (58.3% poor) and an average sit-up score of 25 (100% very poor). The average speed score was 3.49 seconds, with 50% categorized as poor. Agility averaged 14.24 seconds, with 66.7% in the moderate category, while flexibility averaged 14 cm, with 58.3% categorized as poor. Furthermore, arm explosive power averaged 3.93 meters (66.7% poor), and leg explosive power averaged 53 cm, with 91.7% categorized as very poor. In conclusion, the overall physical condition of the male indoor hockey athletes was predominantly classified as poor. Therefore, immediate, systematic, and structured training intervention programs are necessary to improve athletes’ physical performance.
