Abstract

This article discusses the role of the Global Literacy Youth Association Community Reading Park (TBM PPLG) on elementary school students’ reading interest in the academic year 2021-2022. The research conducted was qualitative descriptive research and the subjects involved students of elementary school at TBM PPLG. The data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed by using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results indicated that 1) PPLG TBM encouraged elementary school students’ reading, 2) diverse reading materials, facilities, supporting infrastructure and interesting programs have been able to encourage public interest in reading, especially elementary school-aged children, and was supported by the parents’ role in fostering reading interest in elementary school-age children by getting used to reading books at home. Subsequently, the suggestions for PPLG TBM management and volunteers were expected to be able to give the time to participate in every PPLG TBM activity. It is used for optimizing and maximizing either students’ reading interest at the elementary school level or TBM PPLG inhabitances. To solve illiteracy for elementary school-aged students and TBM PPLG inhabitances, it is required to pay more attention and provide specifically study rooms for children who could not read. It is to optimize the teaching process and the need for teaching and learning methods regarding early reading, for example, by teaching the method of reading each syllable at the beginning of learning, the word method, the SAS method (Structural, Analytical, Synthetic), and the Sentence or Global Method (Syntaxis Method).

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the steps for the development and feasibility of bilingual Pop-up Book learning media for fairy tale material. The research method was Research and Development (R&D) method, referring to Borg and Gall model adapted by Sugiyono. This model consisted of 10 stages (1) potentials and problems (2) data collection (3)product design (4) design validation (5) design revision (6) small group product trials (7) design revision (8) testing large group products (9) final stage product revision (10) mass production. However, in this study it was only limited to 6 stages. Expert validation was carried out by material experts, linguists, and media experts. The subjects of this research were grade III students at SDN Unyur, totaling 10 students for limited product trials. The results showed that the percentage of material expert validation was 79% with feasible category; the linguist validation score was 79% with feasible category; the media expert validation score was 89% with very feasible category; and the assessment score in limited trialswas 82% with very good category. Based on the research results, it was concluded that bilingual pop-up book media was suitable for learning to read fairy tales.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify and analyze phonological errors made by foreign speakers in the sitcom Kelas Internasional. The findings revealed three major types of phonological errors: phoneme omission, phoneme addition, and phoneme substitution. Among these, phoneme substitution occurred most frequently, followed by omission and addition. These errors are not merely mechanical but indicate the cognitive and articulatory strategies learners employ during second language acquisition. Phoneme omission was often related to working memory limitations and cognitive load, while phoneme addition reflected compensatory articulation strategies. Phoneme substitution was closely linked to the influence of the learners’ first language phonological system. This study contributes to the understanding of interlanguage phonology and highlights the importance of psycholinguistic perspectives in second language learning, particularly regarding the stabilization of phonological representations in foreign speakers.
