Cabai rawit Tiyung Tanjung (Capsicum frutescens L.) merupakan varietas lokal khas Kalimantan Selatan yang memiliki nilai ekonomi tinggi dan berpotensi dikembangkan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan konsumsi masyarakat. Salah satu kendala dalam pengembangan varietas ini adalah rendahnya kualitas benih. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perendaman benih dalam larutan NaOH terhadap viabilitas benih cabai rawit Tiyung Tanjung serta mengetahui konsentrasi yang memberikan respons terbaik. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada juni hingga agustus 2025 di Laboratorium Produksi Agroekoteknologi, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat. Metode yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan satu faktor berupa konsentrasi NaOH 0% (kontrol), 1%, 2% dan 3% yang di ulang sebanyak lima kali. Variabel yang diamati meliputi daya berkecambah, potensi tumbuh maksimum, kecepatan tumbuh, panjang plumula dan panjang radikula. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa perlakuan perendaman menggunakan larutan NaOH tidak memberikan pengaruh nyata terhadap daya berkecambah, potensi tumbuh maksimum dan kecepatan tumbuh benih. Namun perlakuan tersebut berpengaruh terhadap panjang plumula dan panjang radikula kecambah. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi NaOH yang diberikan, semakin besar kecenderungan penurunan viabilitas benih akibat gangguan fisiologis dan kerusakan embrio yang dipicu oleh sifat basa kuat larutan. ABSTRACT Tiyung Tanjung cayenne pepper (Capsicum frustescens L.) is a local variety typical of south kalimantan that has high economic value and has the potential to be developed to meet the needs of community consumption. One of the obstacles in the development of this variety is the low quality of the seeds. This study was conducted to determine the effect of seed soaking in NaOH solution on the viability of Tiyung Tanjung cayenne pepper seeds and to determine the best response. This study was conducted from june to august 2025 at the Agroecotechnology Production Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Lambung Mangkurat University. The method used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD with one factor in the form of NaOH concentrations of 0% (control), 1%, 2% and 3% which were repeated five times. The variables observed included germination power, maximum growth potential, growth rate, plumule length and radicle length. The results showed that the soaking treatment using NaOH solution did not have a significant effect on germination power, maximum growth potential and seed growth rate. However, the treatment affected the length of the plumule and radicle length of the sprouts. The higher the NaOH concentration applied, the greater the tendency for seed viability to decrease due to physiological disturbances and embryo damage triggered by the solution’s strong alkaline nature.
