Abstract

Hypertriglyceridemia is a condition of elevated triglyceride levels in the blood. High triglyceride levels in the blood can increase the risk of heart disease. High triglyceride levels are caused by consumption of high-fat foods, obesity, and metabolic syndrome. Snake fruit is a fruit rich in antioxidants and plays a role in degenerative diseases. Snake fruit potential to development as an alternative in treatment. This study aims to test the antihypertriglyceremic activity in rats induced by a high-fat diet using a mixture of quail eggs and used cooking oil, and then the rats were treated with 10%, 20%, and 40% snake fruit extract. The data obtained showed that the administration of snake fruit extract could reduce the triglyceride levels of rats induced by a high-fat diet back to normal levels of <150mg/dL compared to the group induced by a high-fat diet and not treated (negative control). These results show that there is a difference between the group given snake fruit extract and the group not given snake fruit extract. Snake fruit extract contains phenolic and flavonoid metabolites that can lower triglyceride levels. Snake fruit extract can lower triglyceride levels in rats on a high-fat diet.
