Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Truancy is a chronic form of maladaptive behavior in Senior High Schools (SMA) that adversely affects students' academic performance and discipline. This study aims to empirically examine the effectiveness of implementing Contract Learning (behavior contracting) techniques in reducing the frequency of truancy among high school students. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design was employed. The research subjects consisted of 10 eleventh-grade high school students selected through purposive sampling based on the severity of unexcused absences (a minimum of 5 truant episodes within the past month). Daily data collection utilized the Student Attendance Monitoring Sheet (LPKS) and the Truancy Behavior Scale. The intervention was conducted individually over 4 sessions, focusing on behavior analysis, written contract negotiation, autonomous selection of positive reinforcement, and periodic monitoring. Data were analyzed using the non-parametric statistical technique, the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results indicated a highly significant decrease in the average frequency of truancy, dropping from 6.7 times in the pretest phase to 0.8 times in the posttest phase. The hypothesis testing yielded a statistical value of Z = -2.805 with a significance level of 0.005 (p < 0.05), thereby accepting the alternative hypothesis. The Contract Learning technique is proven to be significantly effective in reducing truancy rates by enhancing students' self-regulation, personal accountability, and intrinsic motivation. Obstacles during the intervention involved external factors such as low parental supervision and peer pressure. Therefore, it is highly recommended for Guidance and Counseling teachers to integrate parental control into future implementations of behavior contracts.

Abstract

Learning discipline is one of the determining factors for students' academic success, but various reports in the field indicate that the level of learning discipline among Junior High School (SMP) students is still relatively low, characterized by late submission of assignments, lack of compliance with class rules, and low consistency in independent learning. One strategy that is theoretically believed to be able to shape and maintain disciplined behavior is the provision of reinforcement by teachers. This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of reinforcement on improving learning discipline in junior high school students. The study used a quantitative approach with a correlational-predictive design. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire measuring the variables reinforcement (X) and learning discipline (Y), then analyzed using a simple linear regression technique with the help of SPSS. The results of the analysis that reinforcement has a positive and significant influence on student learning discipline, with a coefficient of determination indicating that reinforcement contributes a significant proportion of variance to learning discipline, while the remainder is explained by other factors outside the model. This finding strengthens the assumption of operant conditioning theory that consistent and timely reinforcement can form a more stable pattern of disciplined behavior in students. This study contributes to the literature by presenting quantitative evidence at the junior high school level, which has so far been minimal compared to studies at the elementary school level or descriptive qualitative studies

Abstract

Maladaptive behavior in early childhood can hinder learning processes and social development, necessitating appropriate behavior modification strategies. One applicable technique is the token economy, which involves providing positive reinforcement in the form of tokens that can be exchanged for rewards. This study aims to describe the implementation of the token economy technique in modifying maladaptive behavior in young children. A qualitative approach using a case study method was employed. Data were collected through interviews and observations involving a five-year-old child, the class teacher, and the parents, and were subsequently analyzed using thematic analysis. The results indicate that prior to the implementation of the token economy, the subject frequently struggled to follow instructions, left their seat without permission, and disturbed peers during lessons. Following the consistent application of the technique, the subject demonstrated behavioral changes, such as greater adherence to rules, the ability to complete tasks, a reduction in disruptive behavior toward peers, and an improved ability to wait for their turn. The study demonstrates that the token economy technique is effective in helping to reduce maladaptive behaviors and enhance adaptive behaviors in young children.

Abstract

Flooding is a natural disaster that causes not only physical damage, material loss, and the disruption of community activities but also impacts the psychological well-being of victims, specifically by inducing anxiety. Post-disaster anxiety can affect an individual's ability to carry out daily activities and adapt to the post-disaster environment. This study aims to describe the anxiety experienced by flood victims in Pidie Jaya Regency in 2025. A qualitative, descriptive approach was employed. Three flood victims served as informants, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña interactive model. The results indicate that all informants continued to experience anxiety, characterized by physiological symptoms (sleep disturbances, heart palpitations, and physical tension), cognitive symptoms (recurring thoughts about the possibility of recurring floods), emotional symptoms (fear, anxiety, and worry), and behavioral changes (increased vigilance and preparedness). This anxiety was influenced by traumatic experiences, flood-related losses, and concerns regarding the safety of family members. These findings suggest that post-disaster recovery efforts must address mental health through psychosocial support, preparedness education, and psychological counseling, enabling victims to adapt and build resilience against potential future disasters.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of behavior modification using assertive training techniques to increase the self-confidence of adolescent victims of bullying in Banda Aceh. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design with a Non-equivalent Control Group Design, this study involved 40 eighth-grade students selected through purposive sampling from two public junior high schools. The subjects were divided into an experimental group (n = 20) which received eight sessions of assertive training, and a control group (n = 20). Data were collected using the Self-Confidence Scale (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.885) and analyzed using the Independent Sample T-Test via SPSS 26. The descriptive analysis showed a substantial increase in the experimental group's mean score from 52.45 to 79.15, whereas the control group only changed from 53.10 to 54.65. The t-test on gain scores revealed a highly significant difference between the two groups (t = 8.432, p = 0.000 < 0.05). These results demonstrate that assertive training effectively restructures verbal and non-verbal responses, decreases social anxiety, and enhances the self-efficacy of bullying victims. School counselors are highly recommended to integrate this module into group counseling services.

Abstract

Academic procrastination or the behavior of delaying tasks is a chronic problem frequently faced by university students, leading to detrimental effects on both academic performance and psychological well-being. This study aims to empirically examine the effectiveness of applying positive reinforcement techniques through a self-management method to reduce the duration of academic task procrastination among college students. A quantitative approach with a Single-Case Experimental Design (SCED) using an A-B-A pattern was employed over a 28-day period. The subjects consisted of three active college students selected via purposive sampling, all scoring high on the Procrastination Assessment Scale-Students (PASS). Data regarding the duration of task delay were collected daily using a self-monitoring log. Visual analysis of the graphs indicated a highly significant decrease in procrastination duration for all three subjects during the intervention phase (B), with an accumulative reduction percentage exceeding 70% from the baseline. During the withdrawal phase (A2), the duration of task delay remained low and stable. This study concludes that positive reinforcement techniques are effective in modifying and reducing task-delaying behavior among college students by shifting the subjects' focus from anxiety avoidance to the attainment of positive reinforcers. The newly formed adaptive behavior proved to be enduring due to the internalization process of new study habits.
