Abstract

ABSTRACT Background Head injury is an emergency condition that may occur in tourist destinations and requires appropriate initial management to prevent further deterioration of the victim’s condition. Tourism officers play a crucial role as first responders before victims receive advanced medical care. Objective: To determine the effect of head injury immobilization technique training on the skills of tourism officers at Umbul Pelem, Klaten. Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest approach. All 40 tourism officers in the study population were recruited as respondents through a total sampling technique. Respondents’ competency in performing head injury immobilization techniques was assessed using an observational checklist. Differences in skill levels before and after the intervention were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Results: : Prior to the training, most respondents were categorized as not competent, whereas after the training, the majority were categorized as competent. The Wilcoxon test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant effect of head injury immobilization technique training on the skills of tourism officers. Conclusion: Head injury immobilization technique training was found to improve the skills of tourism officers in providing first aid for head injury cases.
