Abstract

Background: Upper extremity performance is an important component in basketball that influences the success of techniques such as passing and shooting. Core muscle stability serves as the linking mechanism for force transfer from proximal to distal segments; insufficient core stability can reduce movement accuracy and arm strength. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effect of adding core stability exercises on upper extremity performance in basketball athletes. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest-posttest design was employed. The sample consisted of 28 basketball athletes aged 14–18 years selected by purposive sampling, divided into a treatment group (routine training + core stability, n=14) and a control group (routine training only, n=14). The intervention was conducted for 4 weeks at a frequency of 3 times per week. Upper extremity performance was measured using the Upper Quarter Y-Balance Test (UQYBT). Results: Based on paired Sample T-Test results showed significant improvement in upper extremity performance in both the treatment group (p=0.000) and the control group (p=0.001–0.002). The mean improvement of the treatment group was greater than the control group: 1.21±0.53 (right) and 0.93±0.45 (left) compared to 0.41±0.37 (right) and 0.29±0.29 (left). The Independent T-Test showed a significant difference between the two groups (p=0.000). Conclusion: The addition of core stability training significantly improved upper extremity performance in basketball athletes, with a greater effect compared to routine training alone. Abstract

Background: High fasting blood sugar levels are one of the main risk factors for stroke, especially in the elderly population. Aerobic exercise and Interval Walking Training (IWT) are physical activity interventions that can help improve glycemic control. Objectives: To determine the difference in the effect of aerobic exercise and Interval Walking Training (IWT) on fasting blood sugar levels in individuals at risk of stroke. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach in two treatment groups. A total of 48 respondents aged 45–70 years were divided into an aerobic exercise group and an Interval Walking Training (IWT) group. The intervention was conducted for 4 weeks with a frequency of 3 times per week. Fasting blood sugar levels were measured using Point of Care Testing (POCT). Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: The aerobic exercise group showed a significant decrease in fasting blood sugar levels (p = 0.000), whereas the Interval Walking Training (IWT) group did not show a significant decrease (p = 0.157). The Mann-Whitney test indicated a significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.012). Conclusion: Aerobic exercise is more effective than Interval Walking Training (IWT) in reducing fasting blood sugar levels in individuals at risk of stroke. Abstract

Background: Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide and is closely associated with elevated total cholesterol levels as a major risk factor. Prevention efforts can be carried out through non-pharmacological interventions such as physical exercise, including Interval Walking Training (IWT) and Aerobic Exercise. Objectives: To determine the difference in the effects of Interval Walking Training and Aerobic Exercise on reducing total cholesterol levels in individuals at risk of stroke. Methods: This study used a quasi experimental design with two intervention groups. The study was conducted in RW 10, Ciracas, East Jakarta. A total of 50 participants aged 45–70 years were divided into IWT and Aerobic Exercise groups. The interventions were conducted for 4 weeks with a frequency of 2 times per week. Total cholesterol levels were measured before and after the intervention using a digital cholesterol meter. Data were analyzed using Paired t-test/Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney test. Result: Both interventions showed a reduction in total cholesterol levels after treatment. However, the Aerobic Exercise group demonstrated a greater reduction compared to the IWT group. There was a difference in effect between the two groups, although individual response variations were observed. Conclusion: Aerobic Exercise is more effective than IWT in reducing total cholesterol levels in individuals at risk of stroke. Keywords: Stroke, Total Cholesterol Levels, IWT, Aerobik Exercise, Stroke Risk.
