Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has made gadgets an integral part of young children's daily lives. Uncontrolled gadget use may negatively affect children's development; however, when used appropriately, gadgets can serve as effective educational tools. This community service program aimed to improve young children's understanding of responsible and educational gadget use. The program was conducted at PAUD Amanah Bunda and involved 20 children aged 5-6 years. The methods included educational presentations using visual media and videos, tablet based educational games, interactive question-and-answer sessions, and observations conducted before and after the activities. The results showed an improvement in children's understanding of the benefits, risks, and proper use of gadgets. Participants also demonstrated increased engagement and focus during the activities. Children's developmental achievement improved from the Beginning Development (BD) category to the Developing as Expected (DE) category, with an overall success rate of 95%. These findings indicate that digital media-based educational activities are effective in promoting positive gadget-use awareness among young children. ABSTRAKPerkembangan teknologi digital menjadikan gadget sebagai bagian dari kehidupan sehari-hari anak usia dini. Enhancing Early Reading Skills in Children Aged 5-6 Years at TK Islam Darunnajah Using the Phonics Method. Thesis: Early Childhood Islamic Education Program (PIAUD), Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Darunnajah Jakarta 2024, pages, images, tables, graphs, appendices. This research is motivated by the importance of early reading skills for children from an early age. These early reading skills will later serve as a gateway for children to enter higher levels of education. However, in reality, many children still have low early reading abilities. Many children are not yet familiar with letters and letter sounds, and they struggle to read syllables. The purpose of this research is to improve early reading skills in children aged 5-6 years using the phonics method at TK Islam Darunnajah Ulujami. This research employs a classroom action research method, which includes planning, action, observation, and reflection. From the results of the pre-cycle observation, it was found that the average early reading ability of the children was 42.2%. After implementing the first cycle, it increased to 63.4%, and after the second cycle, it further increased to 81.4%. This indicates that the early reading skills of children aged 5-6 years at TK Islam Darunnajah can be improved using the phonics method.

Abstract

This research aims to improve fine motor skills of children aged 4–5 years through the use of bottle cap media at PAUD Az-Zahra Rengas, South Tangerang City. The background of the study is based on the importance of stimulating fine motor development in early childhood, who are in the golden age period where finger coordination, wrist movement, and manipulative skills are crucial to support learning readiness at the next level. The research method employed was Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and Taggart model, carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the study were 17 children, consisting of 8 boys and 9 girls. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and field notes, then analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively to examine the development of children’s fine motor skills. The findings revealed a significant improvement after the application of bottle cap media, where in the pre-cycle the average mastery level was only 45.9%, increasing to 70.8% in the first cycle, and reaching 99.9% in the second cycle, which exceeded the success indicator of 80%. This improvement was reflected in the children’s ability to classify, arrange, and manipulate bottle caps effectively, indicating optimal development of their fine motor skills. Thus, the use of bottle cap media proved to be effective in enhancing the fine motor abilities of early childhood learners. This study implies that teachers can utilize simple, inexpensive, yet creative media such as bottle caps to create engaging, meaningful, and enjoyable learning experiences that support children’s holistic growth and development.
