Abstract

Introduction: Conventional tobacco cigarette smoking remains a major public health concern, particularly among occupational groups exposed to high work-related stress, such as cleaning service and security workers. Limited awareness of smoking-related health risks may contribute to continued smoking behavior and increased disease burden. Objective: This study aimed to describe the characteristics, knowledge levels, and smoking behaviors related to the dangers of conventional tobacco cigarettes among cleaning service and security workers at the Faculty of Medicine, University X, Jakarta. Method: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in July 2023 among cleaning service and security personnel who were active smokers. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire covering demographic characteristics, knowledge of smoking hazards, and smoking behaviors. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Result and Discussion: The results showed that 62% (31 respondents) had good knowledge regarding the dangers of conventional tobacco cigarettes, while 38% (19 respondents) had sufficient knowledge, and none had poor knowledge. In terms of smoking behavior, 38% of respondents always smoked, 24% often smoked, 34% sometimes smoked, and 4% never smoked in certain situations. Despite relatively adequate knowledge, risky smoking behaviors remained common. Conclusion: Although respondents generally had adequate knowledge, risky smoking behaviors persisted, indicating the need for targeted health education and smoking cessation programs for this occupational group

Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a major non-communicable disease with a high health burden both globally and nationally. This study aims to describe the clinical and demographic characteristics of CKD patients hospitalized at the Universitas Kristen Indonesia General Hospital in 2023. This research employed a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 82 patients were selected through total sampling from medical records. The collected data included age, sex, occupation, highest educational level, place of residence, and history of hypertension and diabetes mellitus as the main comorbidities. The results showed that the 55–65-year age group was the most prevalent (35.6%). Female patients dominated the sample (55.9%). Based on occupation, most patients were housewives (35.4%). The highest level of education recorded was senior high school (54.9%). The most common comorbidities were hypertension (43.9%) and diabetes mellitus (13.4%). These findings indicate that older age, female sex, non-formal occupations, senior high school education level, and the presence of hypertension and diabetes mellitus are frequently observed characteristics among CKD patients at RSU UKI in the 2023 period. The results are expected to serve as a baseline for developing prevention and clinical management strategies for CKD and to raise public awareness regarding the importance of regular kidney function screening.

Abstract

Acute upper respiratory tract infection is an infectious disease caused by microorganisms, one of which is bacteria, so antibiotics are given. Rational use of antibiotics can provide benefits for recovery and does not cause harm that can cause problems or threats to the health of sufferers. Inappropriate administration of antibiotics can hurt patients, one of which is antibiotic resistance. Objective to obtain an overview of the rationality of antibiotic prescription in patients with acute upper respiratory tract infections at the Baun Health Center, Kupang Regency in 2020. This study was conducted using non-experimental research that is descriptive by taking medical record data retrospectively. Sampling was carried out using the non-probability sampling technique and the purposive sampling type, namely determining the sample based on certain considerations where the sample must meet the inclusion criteria, the number of cases of acute upper respiratory tract infections in 2020 was 226 cases. Data collection using secondary data, namely data obtained from medical records of patients with acute upper respiratory tract infections in 2020 at the Baun Health Center, Kupang Regency. The data obtained will be analyzed descriptively quantitatively, including: the percentage of rational and irrational antibiotic prescriptions, the frequency of types of antibiotics used. Acute upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) in Baun Health Center mostly occurred in the 20–44 years age group (32.7%) and were more often experienced by women (59.3%), with the most common diagnosis being rhinosinusitis (48.2%); The most commonly used antibiotic was amoxicillin monotherapy, given to 89.4% of patients; The use of antibiotics showed 100% accuracy of indication and patient, 90.3% accuracy of drug, 65% accuracy of dose, and 55.3% rationality of use. Most in the 20–44 years age group (28.3%) and women (39.3%). Acute upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) at the Baun Health Center, Kupang Regency, occurred most in the 20–44 years age group and were more often experienced by women, with rhinosinusitis as the most common diagnosis. Antibiotic use was dominated by amoxicillin monotherapy. Evaluation of the appropriateness of antibiotic use showed quite good results in terms of indications, patient selection, and type of drug, but there were still shortcomings in the appropriateness of dosage and overall rationality of use. The rationality of treatment was most often found in the 20–44 years age group and in female patients.
