Abstract

Translating cultural word has become the phenomenal issues in translation. Many researches have focused on finding the accurate strategy to translate it. This study discussed the specific strategy that the translator can use to preserve the cultural words in the translation text especially in relay translation. It aims to see the ideological aspect in translation that is essential for evaluating discrepancies in cultural contexts. The descriptive qualitative research is employed on this research to analyze the cultural words and direct translation technique in the Anthology of Batu Bara Folklore. It consists three languages such as Malay, Bahasa Indonesia, and English that was translated using relay translation technique. The results showed that there are 108 cultural words found in the data. It is divided into 52 data (48%) of material culture, 30 data (28%) of social organization, 18 data (17%) of ecology, 4 data (4%) of social culture and gestures habits. Moreover, there are 98 data that use direct translation in the translation from Malay into Bahasa Indonesia and 88 data that use the same technique in Bahasa Indonesia into English text. It can be concluded there are more than 80% data that the meaning is being preserved by the translator.

Abstract

Using Naomi Wolf's idea of power feminism, this study uses a descriptive qualitative methodology. The study centers on a female character's quest for domination in the face of men's powerful predominance. The study's focus is Sweet Avocadoes' English-language digital novel The Alpha's Betrayal in 99 Days, which was released on the iReader platform. This reading and writing app distributes over 600,000 titles to over 70 million active readers in more than 150 countries, including Malaysia and Indonesia.  The purpose of this study is to reveal the forms and functions of power represented through the main female character, Shayna Anderson. The findings indicate that female power in the novel is portrayed through personal charm, physical strength, resilience, and decisiveness. These attributes enable the protagonist to dominate male characters and negotiate an equal gender position. Thus, the novel emphasizes that women can claim authority in patriarchal social relations through a combination of charisma, strength, and courage. In this study, the author also examines the perspective of women in Islamic teachings as a point of comparison. In addition to challenging the presumption that gender equality is associated with patriarchal culture, this discussion attempts to investigate how the idea is positioned inside the Islamic faith. The writer aims to show that through the teachings of the Qur'an, Islam promotes women's rights and equality with men in several spheres of life, in addition to acknowledging their existence. As a result, this section emphasizes the significance of feminist principles found in Qur'anic texts as a basis for creating a more equitable and proportionate understanding of women's roles in Islam. Abstract

Functional typology focuses on clause structure and argument relations as they contribute to meaning. The purpose of this research is to characterize the Minangkabau language's grammatical relationships and semantic roles of subjects and objects. The study uses a literature-based methodology and a qualitative descriptive method. The data were taken from Minangkabau folktales and consists of 80 basic clauses. In order to ascertain syntactic behavior, the analysis employs subjecthood tests (raising, reflexive control, relativization, and quantifier float) in addition to identifying grammatical relations and semantic roles. The results show that Minangkabau subjects continuously hold the greatest syntactic position, regardless of whether they behave as agents or non-agents. Subjects can appear before the predicate, influence reflexive noun phrases, and be relativized. However, objects are different from subjects. Direct objects function as dative or benefactive semantically, whilst indirect objects function as patient. Grammatical relations and semantic roles interact hierarchically and functionally in phrase structure, as demonstrated by Minangkabau's typological nominative–accusative alignment with a simple S–V–O word order.
