Sea surface temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a are important oceanographic parameters that reflect water productivity conditions and influence the distribution of fish resources. Understanding the seasonal variability of these two parameters in the Spermonde Waters is essential for supporting the management of marine resources. This study aims to analyze the spatial and temporal distribution patterns of SST and chlorophyll-a and to examine the relationship between the two in the Spermonde Waters during January–December 2024 using Aqua MODIS Level 3 imagery with a spatial resolution of 4 km. The data were processed and analyzed to determine the seasonal distribution patterns of both parameters. The results show that the highest SPL occurred during Transition Season II, ranging from 30.64–31.33°C, while the lowest SPL was found during the East Monsoon at 29.56–30.09°C. Conversely, the highest chlorophyll-a concentration occurred during the East Monsoon, reaching 0.50–0.69 mg/m³, and the lowest during the Second Intermonsoon at 0.26–0.35 mg/m³. Pearson’s correlation analysis revealed a strong negative relationship between SPL and chlorophyll-a, with a correlation coefficient of -0.88 (p < 0.05). A decrease in SPL is associated with an increase in chlorophyll-a concentration, which is believed to be influenced by nutrient supply resulting from upwelling processes. The results of this study indicate that seasonal oceanographic variability plays a significant role in determining water fertility levels and can serve as a basis for identifying potential fishing grounds in the Spermonde Waters.
