Abstract

ABSTRACT:The coastal ecosystem of Samai Island is a complex interaction between various organisms, including gastropods, and their environment. Gastropods are members of the mollusk phylum, which are invertebrates. This study aims to analyze the correlation between the structure of the gastropod community and physicochemical parameters. The research was conducted on the coast of Samai Island, Fakfak Regency, West Papua Province. Using the transect line method at four sampling stations. The results, showed that the highest gastropod density was found at Station IV (80.2 ind/m2), while the lowest was recorded at Station I (21.8 ind/m2). The gastropod diversity index ranged from 2.36 to 3.14, indicating a medium category at Stations II, III, and IV, and a high category at Station I. The evenness index was high at all stations, with values ranging from 0.61 to 0.87, and there was no dominant species at any station. The physico-chemical parameters of the water at the research location include water temperature ranging from 29.5°C to 30.4°C, salinity between 33.19‰ and 33.94‰, dissolved oxygen (DO) between 5.35 mg/L and 5.74 mg/L, and water pH ranging from 8.41 to 8.65. These parameters influence the structure of the gastropod community along the coast of Samai Island, Fakfak.

Abstract

Abstract

Nilai FBI berada pada kisaran 4,09–4,55 (very good–good), sedangkan HBI tercatat 4,94–5,70 (good– fair). Indeks ASPT menunjukkan rentang 5,00–5,75 yang mengindikasikan kontaminasi ringan, sementara nilai Prati’s indeks (0,77–1,07) menempatkan kualitas air dari kategori excellent hingga acceptable.

Abstract

Majority of patients comes to the community health centers in Manokwari areas is related to malaria diseases, and small number of patients are for diabete melitus diaseses. The patients of diabetes meliatus coming to these community center are not in prediabetic conditions. This means that they are recommended to look better or advanced treatment in hospital. This conditions are due to community lack of knowledge of malaria and diabetes mellitus (DM). To eliminate these condition, community education is important to be conducted, using different approached such as comunity service. The main targets of this research project are the community living at the rural (sub urban) and town areas. Interviews, biomedical measurement parameter, community approaches, and cutting malaria mosquito living cycle, were used to collect data and information. The results indicate that numbers of family member diagnosed with DM and Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) at Town are higher than those at Rural. The respondents diagnosed DM are mostly women, either as house wife or no regular work. Interestingly, no men were reported for DM. Respondents of DM and IGT from Town were mostly at age of 45 – 54 years old, while at Rural were younger, from 15-24 years old. Malaria were found higher prevalence at the sub urban areas, and mostly suffering from Plamodium falcifarum (tropica malaria). After being community approaches, planting anti-malaria herbs, the prevelance of DM and malaria were decreasing because the community awareness of preventing malaria and DM.

Abstract

The aim of research is to monitor the water quality of some ecotourism sites along Prafi Rivers (Manokwari, West Papua), especially in Subsay, SP1 reservoir and SP3 reservoir using macro-zoobenthos biotic index, Pratiâ's index and some chemical-physical factors of water. Research was done from July to September 2016. Sampling was performed through Purposive Random Sampling. Macro-zoobenthos was collected from each sampling sites in three locations, (upstream, middle stream, downstream) using Surber net and hand net. Water quality was categorized based on Implicit Prati's Pollution index that is derived from DO, BOD5, pH, nitrate, orthophosphate and water temperature value. Macro-zoobenthos data was used to analyze the diversity index and six biotic indices. Result of the study showed that DO, BOD5, pH and nitrate value in all location meet water standard quality based on PP. no 82, 2001 class II (fisheries, recreation, animals husbandry and irrigation). The turbidity value in sites of upstream, middle stream and downstream Subsay and SP3 have meets standard water quality according to WHO for drinking water (<5 NTU). Based on the Prati's index, the water quality was ranging from excellent to acceptable categories with value 0.4-1.9. The taxa richness of macro-zoobenthos was 31 taxa. The shannon-wiener diversity index in all stations were more than 2, indicated that the water was not polluted. The water quality of all station showed very excellent up to moderates (based on FBI), very excellent up to very bad (HBI), and excellent up to less polluted (ASPT). Percentage of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera (% EPT) in all station up to 50% (excellent), except in station SP3 upstream (40%). EPT richness value in all station excellent to moderate. It can be concluded that the water quality of Subsay in upstream, middle stream, downstream and downstream of SP3 was excellent. The middle stream of SP3 and middle stream of SPI has moderate quality, while the water quality in SP3 upstream, SPI upstream and SPI downstream was bad.
