Abstract

Plastic waste management remains a major challenge in maintaining environmental cleanliness and reducing ecosystem impacts. Community perception and active participation are essential for successful waste management at the local level. Objective: This study aims to assess public perception and participation in plastic waste management in RT 04 RW III Anduring, Padang. Methods: A descriptive survey was conducted with 50 respondents through questionnaires and direct interviews. Results: The majority of respondents (72%) had a positive perception of plastic waste management, but only 42% were actively involved beyond household-level collection and sorting. This indicates a gap between awareness and actual behavior. Implications: Strengthening environmental education and providing adequate facilities are needed to enhance participation. Conclusion: Positive perception is an important foundation, but without structural support and sustained motivation, community participation in sustainable waste management will remain limited.

Abstract

Community-based Total Sanitation (STBM) is a national approach to improving sanitation and public health through behavioral change. However, evidence on its effectiveness in shaping clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) remains limited. Objective: This study evaluates the effectiveness of the STBM program in changing PHBS in a community intervention area. Methods: A mixed-methods design was applied. Quantitative data were collected from 150 respondents using pre- and post-intervention questionnaires and analyzed with paired t-tests. Qualitative data were obtained from in-depth interviews with community leaders and health workers and analyzed thematically. Results: Handwashing with soap increased from 58% to 82% (p < 0.01), the use of healthy latrines rose from 70% to 85% (p < 0.05), and household waste management improved from 62% to 76% (p = 0.06). Interviews revealed growing awareness of sanitation and environmental health, supported by active roles of health cadres and local leaders. Implications: These findings confirm that STBM is effective as a community-based strategy for behavior change, highlighting the importance of continuous education, participatory implementation, and integration with local development programs. Conclusion: STBM has a positive and significant impact on PHBS, and its sustainability depends on community participation and local government support.

Abstract

Batang Ombilin River in Nagari Limo Koto, Koto VII District, Sijunjung Regency, is the main water source for the local community, used for domestic needs, agriculture, and other economic activities. However, the water quality of this river has declined due to human activities such as agriculture, settlements, and illegal gold mining (PETI). This decline in water quality has the potential to impact public health, leading to an increase in cases of skin diseases and diarrhea in the surrounding areas. This study aims to analyze the water quality of the Batang Ombilin River through testing physical and chemical parameters, including temperature, color, Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). Water samples were taken from three points (upstream, middle, downstream) and analyzed in the laboratory. The research results show that the parameters of temperature, TDS, BOD, and COD still meet the quality standards for Class II according to Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021. However, color and TSS parameters exceeded standard limits at some points, especially near community and mining activities. In conclusion, although the water quality remains safe for most parameters, there are indications of pollution that require further attention. Regular monitoring and public education are needed to prevent further degradation of water quality.

Abstract

Admission services represent the initial point of contact between patients and healthcare facilities and play a crucial role in shaping patients’ perceptions of healthcare service quality. This study aimed to analyze patient satisfaction with admission services at Puskesmas Tanjung Bingkung, Solok Regency, during September 2025. The study employed a descriptive quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The research population consisted of 1,723 outpatient visits, with a sample of 95 respondents determined using the Slovin formula and selected through accidental sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire based on the five Servqual dimensions, measured on a Likert scale ranging from 1 to 5. The results indicated varying levels of patient satisfaction across dimensions: Tangible (74%, satisfied), Reliability (68%, satisfied), Responsiveness (55%, moderately satisfied), Assurance (82%, satisfied), and Empathy (79%, satisfied). The study concluded that while staff competence and professionalism (Assurance) demonstrated the highest satisfaction level, service speed (Responsiveness) remains a critical issue due to high patient volume. Therefore, the implementation of a digital queue management system is recommended to enhance the efficiency of admission services at Puskesmas. Keywords: patient satisfaction, admission services, Servqual, Puskesmas

Abstract

Manual material handling is still commonly performed by porters (kuli panggul) and may lead to muscle fatigue, particularly during lifting and carrying activities involving heavy loads and prolonged working hours. Muscle fatigue is characterized by decreased muscle strength, slowed movement, and muscle pain or tremors. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between age and working duration and hand muscle fatigue among rice porters in Kenagarian Campago, V Koto Kampung Dalam District, Padang Pariaman Regency, in 2025. This study used an observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 40 rice porters. Data were collected from January to July 2025 through interviews and hand muscle strength measurements and analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that 85.0% of workers were in the high-risk age group, 80.0% had long working durations, and 87.5% experienced high levels of hand muscle fatigue. There was a significant relationship between age (p = 0.018) and working duration (p = 0.046) with hand muscle fatigue. Promotive and preventive efforts, including occupational health education and ergonomic work procedures, are essential to reduce the risk of hand muscle fatigue. Keywords : manual material handling, hand muscle fatigue, porter, age, working duration
