Abstract

Wound is the damage or the loss of body tissue that occurs due to factors that disturb the system of body's protection. These factors include trauma, temperature changes, chemicals, explosions, electric shocks, or animal bites. Honey, the natural food produced by honey bees is known as the oldest traditional medicine that has been used for various types of diseases and wound healing. Several detailed examinations have documented the healthful healing effects of honey on various types of wounds. Wounds treated with acacia honey recovery faster than the other treatments. The hypertonic characteristics and acidic pH of honey are considered to be the main factors which responsible for accelerating the wound healing. Studies indicate that among the four Pakistani honeys, acacia honey was found to be better than Zizipus, Brasicca, and Citrus honey in terms of antimicrobial activity, total sugar, and protein content. In addition, the gel form of honey is able to boost the recovery process due to its moist and cool nature. Research objective to analyzing the effectiveness of acacia honey gel on wound healing in white rats. This research method is eksperimental with randomized posttest only control group design. The results of the study found that giving acacia forest honey gel with a concentration of 80% can significantly improve the wound healing process in the third week.

Abstract

Prevalensi luka sayat akibat benda tajam di Indonesia sebesar 25,4%. Salah satu obat yang dapat dimanfaatkan untuk perawatan luka pada dunia medis saat ini yaitu menggunakan povidon iodin 10% dan sediaan gel seperti bioplasenton. Daun sirih banyak digunakan dalam mempercepat penyembuhan luka dengan kandungan senyawa flavonoid, saponin, dan tanin. Salah satu sediaan yang dapat digunakan adalah gel karena gel mampu mempertahankan kelembapan kulit lebih lama di antara jaringan yang rusak dan mengurangi iritasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas gel ekstrak daun sirih hijau (Piper betel L.) terhadap penyembuhan luka sayat pada tikus putih jantan (Rattus norvegicus). Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental dengan rancangan Randomized Posttest Only Control Group Design. Sampel yang digunakan adalah 16 ekor tikus putih jantan. Tikus dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok perlakuan yang terdiri dari kelompok negatif menggunakan basis gel, kelompok positif menggunakan bioplasenton, kelompok perlakuan dengan gel ekstrak daun sirih hijau konsentrasi 15% dan 30%. Analisis data menggunakan uji Shapiro wilk kemudian dilanjutkan dengan uji One Way Anova dan uji Post Hoc Bonferroni untuk melihat ada tidaknya perbedaan bermakna antar kelompok perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan panjang luka sayat terkecil pada hari ke- 21 adalah kelompok gel ekstrak daun sirih hijau 30% dengan rerata 0,17 cm. Hasil uji One Way Anova pada hari ke-21 nilai p <0,05 artinya terdapat perbedaan bermakna terhadap penyembuhan luka sayat antar kelompok. Gel ekstrak daun sirih hijau 30% lebih efektif dalam penyembuhan panjang luka sayat.

Abstract

Background: Men contribute to approximately 50% of infertility cases. Furthermore, around 40% of male infertility is attributed to idiopathic factors. Various factors that lead to male infertility include lifestyle choices such as smoking. Free radicals resulting from cigarette smoke can induce damage to deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and apoptosis of spermatozoa cells. Objective: To analyze the effect of giving pasak bumi root extract (Eurycoma longifolia Jack) on the spermatozoa motility of male Wistar rats exposed to nicotine. Method: Fifteen male rats were randomly divided into five groups, with each group consisting of three rats. Groups 1, 2, and 3 were administered nicotine at 1.0 mg/kg body weight (BW) and pasak bumi (Eurycoma longifolia Jack) root extract at doses of 50 mg/kg BW, 100 mg/kg BW, and 200 mg/kg BW, respectively. Group 4 was only given the nicotine preparation, while Group 5 served as the control group. All groups were provided ad libitum food and water for 48 days. On the 49th day, testicles were harvested, and motility examination was conducted. Data analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA. Results: There was an influence of pasak bumi root extract (Eurycoma longifolia Jack) administration at a concentration of 50 mg/kg BW/day on the spermatozoa motility of male Wistar rats exposed to nicotine. There was an effect of pasak bumi root extract (Eurycoma longifolia Jack) at a concentration of 100 mg/kg BW/day on the spermatozoa motility of male Wistar rats exposed to nicotine. There was an effect of pasak bumi root extract (Eurycoma longifolia Jack) at a concentration of 200 mg/kg BW/day on the spermatozoa motility of male Wistar rats exposed to nicotine. Conclusion: Pasak bumi root extract (Eurycoma longifolia Jack) has an impact on the spermatozoa motility of male Wistar rats exposed to nicotine.
