Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of preserving local cultural values that live in society and their relevance to the life of the faith of Catholics. This research uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, in-depth interviews with 9 informants, namely traditional leaders, church leaders, married couples, and local communities, as well as documentation studies. The results of the study show that the traditional ro'a mu'u dance contains noble values that are passed down from generation to generation. This dance is a symbol of acceptance, unity, respect, towards the dignity of the bride and groom and family, as well as an expression of gratitude for the formation of a new family. In addition, the traditional ro'a mu'u dance reflects the values of togetherness, loyalty, responsibility, love, and harmony in family life. These values are closely related to the meaning of the Catholic Church's marriage blessing which emphasizes the bond of love between husband and wife as a life partnership based on love, loyalty, and openness to God's work. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the traditional ro'a mu'u dance is closely related to church wedding blessings because both emphasize the values of unity, loyalty, responsibility, and togetherness in building a family. This dance also serves as a form of inculturation that enriches the faith of Catholics without diminishing local cultural identity. Therefore, the traditional ro'a mu'u dance deserves to be preserved as a cultural heritage with social, cultural, and religious value.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of participation among the faithful in attending daily Eucharistic celebrations at Sts. Peter and Paul Quasi-Parish Oesapa. Many members of the congregation have not yet fully understood the meaning and significance of the daily Eucharist as the source and summit of Christian life. This study aims to examine the faithful’s understanding of the daily Eucharistic celebration, identify the factors that support and hinder their participation, and explore possible efforts to enhance their participation in daily Eucharistic celebrations. The study employed a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The participants included the Quasi-Parish Priest, a BHK seminarian, the Head of the Liturgy Commission, as well as parishioners who regularly attended daily Eucharistic celebrations, those who attended occasionally, and those who rarely participated. The findings reveal that many participants perceive the daily Eucharist as a source of spiritual strength, a means of drawing closer to God, and an opportunity to deepen their faith. However, some still consider daily Mass to be a non-essential aspect of their spiritual life. Factors supporting participation include personal faith awareness, spiritual habits, and the desire to attain inner peace. In contrast, the main obstacles include work commitments, household responsibilities, limited understanding of the importance of daily Mass, distance from the church, and physical conditions. The study concludes that the faithful’s perception of the daily Eucharistic celebration significantly influences their level of participation in the life of the Church. A deeper understanding of the meaning of the daily Eucharist leads to greater participation in daily Eucharistic celebrations.

Abstract

Huler Wair is a traditional cultural ritual that continues to be preserved by the Catholic community of Tilang Station, Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary Tilang Parish, Diocese of Maumere, particularly during the blessing ceremony of a new house. Passed down through generations, this ritual embodies significant religious, social, and cultural values within the local community. This study aims to analyze the community's understanding of the meaning of the Huler Wair ritual, identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting such understanding, and examine efforts to preserve the ritual as part of the house-blessing tradition. A qualitative research method with a descriptive approach was employed. Data were collected through structured interviews and documentation studies and analyzed using data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings reveal that the Huler Wair ritual is understood as an expression of prayer and hope for peace, safety, health, harmony, and well-being for the household members. Furthermore, the ritual symbolizes harmonious relationships among humans, God, fellow community members, and nature. The preservation of this tradition is supported by the active involvement of customary leaders, religious leaders, and community members. However, declining interest among younger generations and the growing influence of social media pose significant challenges to its continuity. Preservation efforts include involving young people in ritual activities, promoting awareness of its cultural values, and transmitting the tradition through customary and religious events to ensure that the Huler Wair ritual remains sustainable amid contemporary social change.

Abstract

This study aims to empirically examine the effect of campus infrastructure and facilities on the academic atmosphere of higher education students in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara. The primary research question is formulated into one central focus: How significantly do educational infrastructure and facilities influence the development of a conducive academic atmosphere within the campus environment? A quantitative approach with an explanatory survey method was employed. The research population comprised active students from three higher education institutions in Kayu Putih, Kupang City: STIPAS Archdiocesan of Kupang, Muhammadiyah University of Kupang, and Citra Bangsa University. The results reveal that the availability, quality, and accessibility of educational infrastructure exert a positive and significant impact of 64.5% on the academic atmosphere. Therefore, reinforcing physical components like classroom environments, advanced laboratories, libraries, and high-speed internet access serves as a fundamental pillar to promote academic freedom, student creativity, and cognitive advancement across higher education institutions in Kupang.
