Abstract

This study examines the effect of Bible study on the faith growth of Christian students at SMKN 2 Tapung Hilir, Kampar Regency. Using a quantitative survey approach, data were collected from 22 Christian students selected through total sampling. Valid and reliable questionnaires were analyzed using simple linear regression with SPSS. The results show that Bible study has a positive and significant effect on students’ faith growth. The correlation coefficient indicates a very strong relationship (r = 0.827, p < 0.05), while the coefficient of determination (R² = 0.684) shows that Bible study explains 68.4% of the variance in faith growth, with the remaining 31.6% influenced by other factors. These findings demonstrate that Bible study plays an important role in fostering students’ faith growth and should be systematically integrated into Christian Religious Education and spiritual formation programs. The findings also indicate that regular participation in Bible study encourages students to strengthen their understanding of biblical teachings, develop positive Christian values, and apply their faith in daily life. Therefore, schools are encouraged to provide consistent and structured Bible study activities to support students’ spiritual development and strengthen their Christian character within the educational environment.

Abstract

This study examines the theological concept of reconciliation through the bearing of another’s debt in Philemon 1:17–19 as a biblical foundation for the ministry of reconciliation in the contemporary church. Although previous studies have explored the historical relationship between Philemon and Onesimus and Paul’s persuasive rhetoric, limited attention has been given to the theological significance of Paul’s willingness to assume Onesimus’ debt as a model of Christian reconciliation. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the exegetical meaning of Philemon 1:17–19 and to explore its implications for the contemporary church. Employing a qualitative method with a New Testament exegetical approach, the study examines the grammatical, syntactical, literary, and theological dimensions of the text. The findings reveal that reconciliation in this passage extends beyond interpersonal conflict resolution to the restoration of relationships grounded in shared identity in Christ. Paul’s willingness to bear Onesimus’ debt represents substitutive solidarity that reflects the redemptive pattern of Christ’s sacrificial work and demonstrates that genuine reconciliation requires personal responsibility, sacrificial love, and active participation in restoring broken relationships. The study concludes that Philemon 1:17–19 offers a robust theological framework for reconciliation that is both spiritually transformative and socially restorative, providing a relevant paradigm for the contemporary church in addressing relational conflicts and fostering authentic Christian community.

Abstract

Discipleship is one of the church's main strategies in shaping the spiritual maturity of the congregation amidst the challenges of modern life that can cause stagnation in faith growth and weaken spiritual commitment. Through a continuous process of development, discipleship is expected to help the congregation grow in their knowledge of Christ, character, and the practice of living faith in accordance with biblical teachings. This study aims to analyze the influence of discipleship on the spiritual maturity of the congregation at the Shalom Belawan Gospel Spreading Church. The study used a quantitative method with a survey approach. The study population consisted of 40 congregants consisting of 18 men and 22 women aged 17–55 years. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using simple linear regression. The results showed that discipleship had a positive effect on the spiritual maturity of the congregation with a correlation coefficient (R) of 0.339. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.115 indicated that discipleship contributed 11.5% to the spiritual maturity of the congregation, while 88.5% was influenced by other factors outside the study. These findings indicate that discipleship plays a role in supporting spiritual growth through ongoing teaching, character development, and faith mentoring. Therefore, churches need to develop planned and systematic discipleship programs to improve the quality of congregational development while strengthening their spiritual maturity.
