<![CDATA[This community service program aimed to improve the academic communication politeness of senior high school students in Batam through training based on Politeness Theory (Brown & Levinson, 1987) and the Cooperative Principle (Grice, 1975). The program was designed to foster polite, empathetic, cooperative, and effective interactions among students, teachers, and peers, thereby promoting a positive interaction culture in the classroom. The identified problems included the frequent use of direct speech, limited awareness of politeness strategies, and insufficient understanding of maintaining interpersonal respect in academic communication. The training was conducted through lectures, group discussions, simulations, and role-play activities focusing on polite academic interactions. Evaluation was carried out using classroom observations and a Likert-scale questionnaire completed by 34 participating students. The findings revealed that the students’ level of academic communication politeness was categorized as very high, with an overall mean score of 4.23 out of 5. The highest scores were found in students’ understanding of the purpose of polite communication (M = 4.47) and their perception that polite communication creates a more comfortable learning environment (M = 4.38). The program contributed to strengthening students’ awareness of respectful communication, appreciation of differing opinions, and the development of a positive and harmonious classroom interaction culture.]]>
