Abstract

ABSTRACT The Failure of reinforced concrte beam structures can occur due to the function of tensile reinforcement, compression reinforcement, and stirrups not functioning properly so that the beam is unable to withstand/ support the working load. This study aims to analyze the strength of reinforced concrete beams using inclined stirrups at an angle of 135° with a variation of 100 mm and 150 mm. Reinforced concrete is chosen as a combination of concrete and steel to increase the tensile strength that concrete does not have. The Ultimate Stress Design (USD) method is used to design reinforced concrete element structures. The test involved two samples of reinforced concrete beams measuring 15x15x80 cm. Based on the test, the average compressive strength of 100 mm concrete beams was 28 MPa and 150 mm was 29 MPa. The tensile test of D-13 threaded steel reinforcement produced an fy of 354 MPa and D-8 plain fy value of 369 MPa. The flexural strength of concrete beams at stirrup distances of 100 mm and 150 mm was recorded at 23.67 Mpa with a maximum deflection occurring in beam B-1 of 46.4 mm and a maximum deflection in beam B-2 of 47 mm. The results of this study provide important information about the effect of variations in inclined stirrups on the structural performance of reinforced concrete in increasing the flexural and shear strengths that occur in beams. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to increase the thermal conductivity of pervious concrete by adding environmentally friendly supplemental materials, such as coconut fibre and rice husk ash (RHA). The material variations include RHA at 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15% by cement weight and coconut fiber at 0%, 0.5%, and 1% by total mix weight. Five selected combinations were analyzed based on the balance between workability, strength, and thermal performance. Tests conducted include slump (workability), compressive strength (at 28 days), thermal conductivity, water absorption, and freeze-thaw resistance. The results indicate that the addition of RHA and coconut fiber reduces workability but significantly enhances compressive strength and freeze-thaw durability. Thermal conductivity decreased by up to 23% in the mix with 15% RHA and 1% fiber, indicating improved thermal insulation capacity. While water absorption increased with higher fiber content, it was reduced by the presence of RHA. The optimal combination was found in the mix with 10% RHA and 1% coconut fiber, which offered the best balance between mechanical strength, thermal efficiency, and environmental durability. Abstract

This study aims to develop an environmentally friendly construction material by partially substituting cement and sand with rice husk ash (RHA) and fly ash in pervious concrete. The combination of these two pozzolanic materials is expected to enhance the porosity of the concrete without causing a significant reduction in compressive strength, thereby maintaining its functionality while supporting rainwater conservation in urban areas. The experimental program consisted of a control concrete (without additives) and three modified mixes containing 10%, 15%, and 20% of combined pozzolanic materials (RHA and fly ash) as a partial replacement of the total binder, with a water–cement ratio (w/c) of 0.5 and up to 80% reduction in sand content. The results indicate that increasing the pozzolanic content proportionally increases the porosity and water absorption, from 5.9% in the control mix to 9.8% in the highest variation. Despite the higher porosity, the compressive strength remained within the range of 22–27 MPa, which satisfies the requirements for non-structural concrete. This demonstrates that RHA and fly ash can effectively replace a substantial portion of cement without significantly compromising performance. The pozzolanic reaction between active silica and Ca(OH)₂ generated secondary C–S–H gel formation, which strengthened the microstructure surrounding the pores. Overall, the incorporation of RHA and fly ash in pervious concrete produces a material with a balanced combination of strength, porosity, and environmental sustainability, offering great potential for application in sustainable drainage systems, permeable pavements, and urban green infrastructure.
