Abstract

It is essential to realize that wrong parenting can lead to serious social problems such as promiscuity, sexual violence against girls, early marriage, neglect, dropping out of school, and drug trafficking and use. This study aims to analyze the parenting style of children of families who live in the longhouse of Kampung Atas Air, Margasari Village, West Balikpapan District, Balikpapan City. The sociological perspective used is critical. This research uses the qualitative method of the case study approach. The research informants were five families living in longhouses consisting of mothers or fathers and children, community leaders, and local government. The results of the study show that the social reality of the longhouse family is not in line with the social order of the local community, such as; promiscuity occurs, children dropping out of school, early marriage, neglect of children and wives, and drug trafficking. The parenting style implemented is permissive and uninvolved parenting. Children are ignored so that they are not controlled in the association. Caring for children is the responsibility of the extended family, not the responsibility of the nuclear family, namely the biological parents, so children receive less attention from their parents during the growth period until adulthood. The research concludes that a parenting style not by the social order causes social disorder. Tanggung jawab pengasuhan anak menjadi tanggung jawab keluarga besar bukan tanggung jawab keluarga inti, yaitu orang tua kandungnya sehingga anak-anak kurang mendapat perhatian dari orang tua selama masa pertumbuhan sampai dewasa. Kesimpulan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pola asuh yang tidak sesuai dengan tatanan sosial  menyebabkan terjadinya ketidakteraturan sosial.

Abstract

The relocation of Indonesia’s new capital (IKN) to East Kalimantan presents both opportunities and challenges for the agricultural sector as the foundation of national food security. Agricultural development in this emerging region requires an integrated approach, as food security depends not only on land availability and production capacity but also on supply stability, farmers’ access to inputs, and the long-term sustainability of local production systems. This article analyzes agricultural development strategies in the IKN area and its surrounding regions through a multi-stakeholder perspective involving government, farmers, academics, and students. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were obtained from a multi-stakeholder dialogue forum in Muara Ulu Jawa Village, Samboja District, as well as secondary data from government documents and academic sources. The findings reveal several key challenges, including limited productive land due to land conversion, shortages of subsidized fertilizers, insufficient agricultural extension officers, and inadequate farm road infrastructure. Stakeholders emphasized the need for farmland protection policies, improved fertilizer distribution, reclamation of former mining sites for new agricultural land, development of irrigation and farm roads, strengthening GAPOKTAN institutions, and increasing extension personnel. Local leaders also highlighted the urgency for IKN to achieve localized food self-sufficiency, considering that East Kalimantan currently meets only 30% of its food needs. Proposed strategies include increasing production, expanding farmland, modernizing agricultural equipment, stabilizing farm-gate prices, and enhancing farmers’ human resource capacity. Academics and students are expected to support farmer adaptation through knowledge transfer, field assistance, and applied research. This study concludes that agricultural development in IKN requires integrated, sustained collaboration among farmers, local governments, the IKN Authority, and universities to align production needs, input access, farmer welfare, and land protection. Such collaboration can position IKN’s agriculture as a long-term food security model for Eastern Indonesia.

Abstract

Residential fires are among the most frequent disasters occurring in densely populated urban areas and often generate significant social, economic, and environmental impacts. This study aims to analyze community perceptions of fire prevention and fire management efforts in Dr. Sutomo Street, Alley 8, Sidodadi Village, Samarinda Ulu District, Samarinda City. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed to gain an in-depth understanding of community experiences, knowledge, and perceptions regarding fire risk. Research participants consisted of officers from the Samarinda City Fire Department, neighborhood leaders, and residents affected by fire incidents, who were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentation, and were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the community holds positive perceptions of government-led fire prevention programs, including public awareness campaigns, training on the use of portable fire extinguishers (APAR), the establishment of Fire Volunteers (Redkar), and the PRO-BEBAYA Program. The major fire incident in 2024 emerged as the primary factor shaping community risk perceptions and increasing awareness of the importance of preparedness. Enhanced preparedness is reflected in the availability of fire-fighting equipment at both household and neighborhood levels, improved community capacity to undertake initial fire response actions, and high levels of participation in fire mitigation activities. Nevertheless, the study area remains highly vulnerable due to building density, the predominance of wooden houses, narrow access roads, and limited water resources. This study concludes that fire experience, community knowledge, and community-based mitigation programs play a crucial role in shaping risk perception and community preparedness. These findings contribute to the advancement of risk perception studies within the disaster context and provide a basis for strengthening community-based fire mitigation policies in densely populated urban residential areas.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the livability and subjective well-being of the Dayak Kenyah community in Pampang Cultural Village, Samarinda City, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The study is motivated by the growing attention to quality of life, which is no longer assessed solely through economic and infrastructural dimensions but also through environmental comfort, social relationships, cultural identity, and subjective well-being. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological design was employed to explore community members’ lived experiences and interpretations of their residential environment and perceived well-being. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, field observations, and documentation. Informants were selected purposively and consisted of local residents, customary leaders, and village officials who possessed relevant knowledge and experience regarding the phenomenon under investigation. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the livability of Pampang Village is shaped by a comfortable residential environment, relatively adequate access to basic facilities, a high level of security, strong social cohesion, and the sustainability of Dayak Kenyah cultural traditions. Meanwhile, the community’s subjective well-being is reflected in high levels of life satisfaction, happiness, gratitude, and pride in their cultural identity. The study further demonstrates that quality of life is constructed through the interaction between a livable environment, social capital, and the continuity of local cultural values. This research contributes to the advancement of livability and subjective well-being studies within the context of indigenous communities and provides practical implications for the formulation of development policies that emphasize community welfare, cultural preservation, and environmental sustainability.
