Abstract

This study aims to analyze the learning methodology of Tafsir bil Ma’thur by integrating authoritative sources with contemporary learning approaches. Tafsir bil Ma’thur is an exegetical method based on the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the narrations of the Companions and the Tabi'in as primary authoritative sources. Amid the rapid advancement of information technology and the transformation of educational paradigms, an instructional model is required that preserves the authenticity of these sources while addressing the learning needs of contemporary students. This research employs a library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach. The data were collected from classical Qur'anic exegesis works, books on Qur'anic interpretation methodology, scholarly journal articles, and other relevant literature, and were analyzed using content analysis. The findings indicate that integrating authoritative sources with active, collaborative, and technology-assisted learning strategies enhances students' understanding of the principles of Tafsir bil Ma’thur without compromising the validity of transmission (sanad) and the authority of narrations. Furthermore, this approach promotes critical thinking, digital literacy, and academic attitudes in Qur'anic studies. Therefore, the learning methodology of Tafsir bil Ma’thur should be developed through pedagogical innovations while maintaining the epistemological foundations of classical Qur'anic exegesis to ensure its relevance in contemporary Islamic education.

Abstract

Marāḥ Labīd, authored by Shaykh Nawawi al-Bantani, is one of the most influential Qur'anic commentaries produced by a Nusantara scholar and has played a significant role in the development of Qur'anic studies, particularly within Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). However, its epistemological foundations and contribution to the tradition of Nusantara Qur'anic exegesis have not been comprehensively examined. This study aims to analyze the epistemology of interpretation employed by Shaykh Nawawi al-Bantani in Marāḥ Labīd and to explain its contribution to the development of the Nusantara tafsir tradition. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using library research. The data were collected from Marāḥ Labīd as the primary source and supported by books, scholarly journal articles, and other relevant literature as secondary sources. The findings indicate that Shaykh Nawawi integrates tafsīr bi al-ma'thūr and tafsīr bi al-ra'y in a balanced manner, reflecting the theological orientation of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamā'ah and the Shafi'i school. Furthermore, Marāḥ Labīd has significantly contributed to strengthening the intellectual heritage, educational tradition, and development of Nusantara Qur'anic exegesis.

Abstract

This study examines the traditions of Yasinan, Tahlilan, and Khataman as manifestations of the Living Qur'an, highlighting the dynamic relationship between the Qur'an, local culture, and Islamic identity. The research addresses three main questions: how these traditions represent the community's reception of the Qur'an, how the interaction between Qur'anic values and local cultural practices is constructed, and how these traditions contribute to the formation of Islamic identity. The study aims to analyze Yasinan, Tahlilan, and Khataman as expressions of the Living Qur'an while explaining the dynamic relationship between the Qur'anic text, local traditions, and the social life of Muslim communities. This research employs a qualitative method based on library research using the Living Qur'an perspective. The data were collected from the Qur'an, hadith, classical and contemporary Qur'anic commentaries, scholarly books, and relevant academic journal articles, and were analyzed through descriptive-analytical content analysis. The findings reveal that the traditions of Yasinan, Tahlilan, and Khataman are not merely religious rituals but also represent the community's reception and actualization of Qur'anic values in everyday life. These traditions create a dynamic interaction between normative Islamic teachings and local cultural expressions, fostering an adaptive and moderate Islamic identity while strengthening social solidarity without compromising the essential values of the Qur'an
