Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the capacity of residents in Semanan Urban Village to implement Al-based urban farming as a strategy to strengthen food security, digital literacy, and community empowerment. The activities were carried out through stages of socialization, training, technology implementation, mentoring, and evaluation, grounded in development communication and participatory communication approaches. The results indicate that integrating urban farming with Al technologies- such as soil sensors, plant monitoring applications, and automated irrigation systems— successfully improved the community's knowledge and technical skills in managing urban agriculture. Training sessions utilizing instructional communication and hands-on learning effectively increased digital literacy and accelerated the adoption of technological innovations. Continuous mentoring and the establishment of an urban farming community strengthened program sustainability through information exchange, collaboration, and enhanced community ownership of the innovation. Additionally, the production of a short documentary served as an effective audio-visual medium to broaden information dissemination and highlight the role of visual communication in community empowerment. Overall, the program not only improved urban farming productivity but also strengthened communication capacity, social inclusion, and technological independence at the community level. The integration of Al into urban farming proved to be an effective, adaptive, and replicable innovation for other urban areas.

Abstract

Film is a mass communication medium capable of representing social and cultural realities through visual and verbal signs. KKN di Desa Penari presents various signs related to the Javanese belief system, including rituals, prohibitions, offerings, sacred places, and beliefs in supernatural entities. This study aims to analyze the representation of the Javanese belief system in KKN di Desa Penari through denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings based on Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory. This research employs an interpretive paradigm with a descriptive qualitative approach. Primary data were obtained through observation of the uncut version of KKN di Desa Penari, produced by MD Pictures, while secondary data were collected through literature studies involving books, scientific journals, and relevant sources. The analysis focused on nine scenes selected based on their relevance to the Javanese belief system. The findings show that, at the denotative level, the film presents rituals, offerings, prohibitions, sacred places, spiritual figures, and relationships between humans and the spiritual world. At the connotative level, these signs construct meanings related to respect for customs, obedience to traditional rules, and relationships between humans, nature, and the spiritual world. At the mythical level, the film constructs the idea that violating traditional rules and sacred spaces may result in consequences for human life. The study concludes that KKN di Desa Penari represents the Javanese belief system as a cultural construction conveyed through visual and verbal signs. Keywords: Representation, belief systems, Javanese society, the film KKN di Desa Penari, Roland Barthes' semiotics.

Abstract

Pengalaman positif peserta kemudian mendorong terbentuknya electronic word of mouth (e-WOM). ABSTRACT The rapid growth of social media has transformed marketing communication strategies, particularly in the open trip industry. Instagram has become an effective platform for attracting Generation Z through visual content and digital interaction. This study aims to analyse Tiga Dewa Adventure's Instagram promotional strategy in attracting Generation Z's interest in open trips based on the AISAS (Attention, Interest, Search, Action, Share) model and to identify the factors influencing their interest. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation of the Instagram account @tigadewaadventureindonesia, and documentation. The informants consisted of an internal representative of Tiga Dewa Adventure, a Generation Z participant who had joined an open trip, and a digital marketing expert. Data were analysed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that Tiga Dewa Adventure's Instagram promotional strategy has effectively implemented the AISAS model. Visual content successfully captures attention, comprehensive information increases interest, and further information is sought through captions, highlights, direct messages (DM), and WhatsApp. The decision to join an open trip is influenced by the company's credibility, participant testimonials, and responsive customer service. Positive travel experiences also encourage participants to share their experiences, generating electronic word of mouth (e-WOM). The study further reveals that visual appeal, information quality, credibility, and community and travel experiences are the main factors influencing Generation Z's interest. Therefore, the promotional strategy should be enhanced by strengthening storytelling, diversifying visual content, and optimising the use of user-generated content (UGC).

Abstract

This research examines the broadcasting activities carried out by the Instagram account @ceritabekasi.co, a homeless media outlet that relies on social media rather than a website as its main channel for news distribution. The study aims to describe these broadcasting activities and to identify the factors that support them in relation to public interest in consuming local news through Instagram. A qualitative approach with a case study method was employed within a constructivist paradigm. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the account manager, an active follower, and a social media expert as a triangulation informant, and analyzed through data reduction, categorization, and interpretation guided by Everett M. Rogers' Diffusion of Innovation Theory and Lavidge and Steiner's Hierarchy of Effects Theory. The findings show that broadcasting activities include information gathering, verification, content production, distribution through Instagram features, and audience interaction, and that audience responses can be interpreted with reference to awareness, knowledge, liking, preference, conviction, and action. Seven interrelated factors were found to support the success of these activities: speed of information delivery, credibility, content visualization, publication consistency, audience interaction, local relevance, and citizen journalism participation.

Abstract

This article examines how a television news livestream becomes embedded in platform-mediated content, labor, and audience commodification. It uses qualitative documentary case analysis of Metro TV’s 24-hour YouTube distribution, drawing on an anonymized case narrative, an official livestream listing, YouTube documentation, and scholarly literature. Vincent Mosco’s political economy distinguishes potential exchange-value orientations of content, professional work, and audience attention; a bounded Gramscian reading examines how disruption and adaptation are framed as organizational necessities. A provenance register, explicit decision rules, and a passage-level evidence matrix distinguish verifiable public artifacts from uncorroborated claims and conceptual inference. The analysis proposes a conditional circulation–measurement–repackaging mechanism: broadcast material becomes accessible through a third-party platform; accounts describe optimization and expanded production roles; and reported use of viewing indicators may inform subsequent clips. Only the livestream listing and platform capabilities are independently corroborated; organizational workflows, worker experiences, audience behavior, and financial outcomes remain unverified. The article provides an evidence-bounded interpretation without equating digital convergence with exploitation, visibility with revenue, or managerial narratives with consent. Implications concern research transparency and the distinction between engagement signals and public-interest editorial judgment.

Abstract

This qualitative study examines how Sundanese cultural values are signified in six scenes of a Seren Taun documentary associated with the Sunda Wiwitan community in Cigugur, Kuningan. Using Roland Barthes’ distinctions among denotation, connotation, and myth, the article traces how depicted rituals become narratives of communal identity rather than treating visual interpretations as direct facts about community beliefs. The selected scenes concern a bow dance, angklung performance, water vessels, a Garuda-like effigy, a tiger effigy, and rice pounding. The analysis identifies linked representations of courage and gender, musical solidarity, human–nature relations, collective labour, ancestral remembrance, spirituality, and intergenerational transmission. Across scenes, the film constructs a broader myth of harmonious cultural continuity while also raising questions about gendered responsibility, idealized solidarity, and the selective visibility produced by documentary framing. The contribution is an explicit cross-scene account of how these meanings are naturalized and where plausible alternative interpretations remain. The evidence concerns one audiovisual text, not audience reception or an exhaustive account of Sundanese practice. Documentary production metadata and still-image reuse permissions require author verification before publication.
