Abstract

This study aims to improve the reading ability of second-grade students at SDN 10 Penatoi through the implementation of a word-arranging game technique in Indonesian language learning. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design consisting of two cycles, each including planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 18 students. Data were collected through observation sheets and reading performance assessments. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ reading ability across the cycles. The average score increased from 2.78 in the pre-cycle (low category) to 3.00 in Cycle I (moderate category), and further improved to 3.67 in Cycle II (good category). The total score also increased from 50 in the pre-cycle to 54 in Cycle I, and reached 66 in Cycle II. In addition, most students demonstrated gradual individual progress, with several students achieving the maximum score in the final cycle. These findings indicate that the word-arranging game technique is effective in enhancing students’ reading skills. The interactive and engaging nature of the activity encourages active participation, improves motivation, and facilitates better understanding of word structures. Therefore, this technique can be considered a practical and effective alternative strategy for improving early reading skills in elementary school students.

This study aims to see and examine the extent to which student learning activity has increased by implementing the make a match type cooperative learning model . Because to increase student learning activity, teachers need to be creative in providing fun lessons, especially preparing innovative models, so that students can understand the material well, especially social studies material that discusses natural phenomena and the social environment that exists around students' lives. For example, the make a match type cooperative learning model . The results of the study show that the use of this model is able to increase student activity, this can be seen from the active presentation of students from 35% increasing to 88%, this shows a significant increase from the previous learning process. In addition, this model can make learning more interesting, fun, more lively, and meaningful, because it is marked by students' attitudes in receiving learning much more enthusiastically than before, they have dared to ask, answer, discuss, more than that physically involved and actively participating in learning such as looking for pairs of cards that have been prepared by the teacher without shame and fear. So the make a match type cooperative learning model is very good to be applied in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of instructional innovations carried out by teachers at SDN 2 Labuan Kananga in improving students’ basic skills. As thematic or integrated learning has been applied in almost all schools, the implementation of thematic learning becomes one of the approaches that is relevant to students’ needs in developing skills such as reading, arithmetic, listening, and speaking. This is important because basic skills serve as a foundation that supports students’ success at the next level of education. The common problem that often arises in the classroom is the lack of students’ learning interest, which is influenced by monotonous and less innovative teaching methods. Teachers who do not present variation in teaching tend to make students passive, thus making the learning process less effective. Through thematic learning, teachers have the opportunity to connect learning materials with students’ real-life experiences, making the learning process more contextual, enjoyable, and meaningful.
