Abstract

Kata Kunci : Skabies, personal hygiene, keluarga ABSTRACT BACKGROUND The prevalence of scabies in Indonesia ranks 3rd out of the 12 most common skin diseases. Scabies is a skin disease caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabei var. Horminis. The transmission of scabies is closely related to housing density, including transmission within the family. If one family member suffers from scabies, it will be very easy to infect the other family members through direct or indirect contact, especially if the family's personal hygiene is poor. This can occur due to the habit of exchanging personal equipment or the habit of sleeping together with patients with scabies. However, there are still few studies on the relationship between personal hygiene and the incidence of scabies in the family. METHODS This study is an analytic observational study and uses a cross sectional approach. The research sample was 53 respondents who were selected using purposive sampling technique. Research data were obtained using a scabies screening questionnaire and personal hygiene questionnaire. The analysis test used the chi-square test. RESULTS Respondents who had poor personal hygiene were 29 respondents (54.7%), and respondents with good personal hygiene were 24 respondents (45.3%). For the results so in addition, respondents who experienced scabies were 40 respondents (75.5%) and 13 respondents did not experience scabies (24.5%). The results of the chi-square test that there is a relationship between personal hygiene attitudes (p < 0.001) with the incidence of scabies in the family. CONCLUSION There is a relationship between personal hygiene and the incidence of scabies in the family at the Skin and Gender Polyclinic of Waled Hospital. Keywords: Scabies, personal hygiene, family
