Abstract

ABSTRACT Science and religion are two variables that are warmly discussed by contemporary scientists. John F. Haught for example explains the relationship between religion and science through four phases, namely, conflict, contrast, contact, and confirmation. Between these four phases, John F. Haught himself was in a confirmation position. Likewise Seyyed Hossein Nasr, a Muslim scientist and philosopher, is in the same position as John. This is known from his scientific concept known as Scientia Sacra. This concept is unique from the concept of confirmation or integration of science with religion, especially Islam. Although in the Islamic body there is no conflict between the two, new conflicts arise between the two relations caused by the characteristics of modern science which cause many multidimensional crises. This is what triggers the attitude of Muslims who are indifferent to science. In relation to Islam and science, Nasr has its own model in integrating the two. The model itself departs from the doctrine of cosmology which he considers to be a medicine from the paradigm of modern science: narrow, dark, and divided. The model in integrating science and Islam is to change the paradigm of modern science into the paradigm of Scientia Sacra who sees science as it should. So, science cannot be separated from Islam and must follow the principles in Islam. Keywords: Scientia sacra, integration, absolute reality, multidimensional crisis

Abstract

Cosmology is one of the philosophical and scientific objects that become attention in Greek philosophers, especially Aristotle. However, with the times, this cosmology was found in The Qur’an, exactly in the concept of the sky and earth creation which was written and explained by the creator Himself. Then, Islamic scholars and philosophers come up with this issue and choose it as a medium in constructing Islamic science or Islamization of Nature Knowledge that faces fundamental basic deconstruction, so it causes the epistemological flaw in modern science’s body. Seyyed Hossein Nasr, as the inspirator for sacred science, popularize cosmology as one of Islamic science based on him. Past Muslim scholar, Al-Farabi, involved cosmology in integrating Islam and knowledge before. The interesting thing that will be solved in this article is how Muslim scientist, Fakhruddin Ar-Razi interprets creation signs as the source of cosmology in Islam, which leads this toward signs for thinkers. Not only, these cosmology concepts derived from contemporary Muslim scholars and philosophers will also explain the wisdom behind the creation of nature from its microcosmic and macrocosmic not only for increasing people’s faith nor sign but one of the main concepts of Islamization Nature Knowledge, because it is derived from main Muslim guidance, namely The Qur’an Al-Karim.

Abstract

This paper aims to present the urgency of the reinterpretation of female figures narrated in the Qur'an. The debates that emerged in the contemporary era became social claims which had implications for grouping groups based on social perceptions obtained from the time. This paper then collects things related to Barbara F. Stowasser to answer her thoughts on women's work. Through the literature’s genre initiated by hers, this article analyzes the structuralization of social impact raised in different categories of interpretation. The results of this tracking prove that, although the debate regarding the story in the Qur'an has yet to be completed, it still provides relevance to the social construction that one wants to build on the status of women in society.

Abstract

A superficial comprehension of hadith that depends exclusively on the text may hide the profound message conveyed by the Prophet. This research seeks to investigate the influence of culture on the interpretation of hadith and how academics contextualize it to reconcile the disparities in comprehension between rural and urban groups. The employed methodology is qualitative, utilizing a hermeneutic approach to hadith texts and a contextual examination of public reception. The study's findings indicate that a holistic approach, integrating textual and contextual meanings, might enhance the egalitarian ethos in Islam and render hadith more pertinent to modern social dynamics. Consequently, the significance of hadith is not merely normative but also capable of adapting to the cultural realities of society.

Abstract

This study aims to re-evaluate the offer of maqāṣidī interpretation in resolving the ecological crisis caused by the anthropocentric paradigm. This study uses a qualitative method to analyze the philosophy and interpretation products of maqāṣidī tafsir through primary sources such as the works of figures who first formulated maqāṣid of the Qur'an as the philosophy of maqāṣidī tafsir and applied it in interpretation products; among them are Rashid Rida and Ṭāhir Ibn 'Āshūr. Based on this evidence, the findings reveal that there is inconsistency in maqāṣidī interpretation in mediating the contestation between theocentric and anthropocentric paradigms, therefore, it can be said that maqāṣidī interpretation is more adapted to the modern context and its needs without a clear frame of reference, rather than referring to God's purpose, although the word maqāṣid is synonymous with God's purpose. As a result, maqāṣidī interpretation does not place meaning in the midst of the contestation of the two paradigms but prefers one of them accordingly fit to the context.
