Abstract

Electricity is a conceptual and complicated physics subject, hence technological integration is required to help understanding. Using the ADDIE development research approach, this study will investigate how the design, practicality, and characteristics of Low Carbon Virtual Lab (LCVL) media might empower students' sustainability literacy. The LCVL was built using low carbon education values and sustainability literacy indicators to test student abilities through quizzes and discussion topics. The feasibility of LCVL was rated as very good. Material experts scored 96.59%, media experts scored 86.98%, and language experts scored 95.60% (very feasible). The teacher and student response test to LCVL also yielded an overall average, with student responses of 91% and instructor responses of 82.41%. LCVL possesses the following characteristics: (1) an interactive digital simulation media, (2) packed in the form of a website link, (3) user-friendly, (4) utilized to empower students' sustainability literacy, and (5) the concept of electrical material supplied is combined with low carbon education. Thus, LCVL is appropriate for use in the learning process to improve students' sustainability literacy.

Abstract

Creative thinking as one of the 21st skills is not only beneficial but also essential, particularly in learning sciences. Creative thinking equips them with the cognitive flexibility to devise innovative solutions, consider multiple variables, and approach challenges from diverse angles, fosters critical reasoning and imagination, and enhances student motivation and engagement within science classrooms. This paper will focus on investigating the implementation of creative thinking in learning sciences based on the articles published in national accreditation journals in Indonesia. The content analysis approach was applied, leveraging the method of scanning published research journal documents as its research method. This study is distinctive from previous research on creative thinking skills in several ways covered on all educational articles published from 2015 to 2024 in all Indonesian science education journals. This study revealed that in the last three years, the number of publications focusing on creative thinking skills has increased. The most dominant research is quantitative research with quasi experiment as the research design. Meanwhile, junior high school students, and 'biology' with the subject material of 'environmental pollution' were consecutively the subjects, science fields of study, and topics most chosen by researchers. Project Based Learning (PjBL), test sheet, and N-gain were the most frequently used as treatments, instruments, and data analysis methods, respectively. The review highlights the need to increase the use of qualitative and mixed-method approaches, explore the integration of local wisdom and ethnoscience through R&D, and focus on developing instructional products to enhance students’ low creative thinking abilities. Additionally, researchers are advised to clearly report their research instruments, including validity and reliability, and to select data analysis techniques that align with their research objectives and design.

Abstract

This mixed-method research aimed to analyze the influence of the PjBL-STEAM learning model on the creative thinking skills of grade XI students through a jumputan batik pattern-making project. The main problem was the demand for creative adaptation skills in the 21st century. By collecting data through product assessment observations, questionnaires, and interviews, this study found that the PjBL-STEAM model had a positive and strong impact, particularly in the aspects of fluency and flexibility, which reached 75.50%–78.00%. However, significant challenges were found in the aspects of originality and elaboration, with lower scores (52.27%–58.20%), indicating the need for further development on the innovation and detail of students' work. Overall, the PjBL-STEAM model is effective, but it requires more specific guidance to encourage the generation of unique and detailed ideas.
