Abstract

One of the environmental parameters that need to be monitored is ocean waves. Waves that occur at sea have random, dynamic, and complex movements. Height measurements and wave periods are difficult to formulate accurate and simplification is needed through mathematical equations in the form of sinusoidal. Therefore, the marine information system is very important for data storage media, data processing, and visualization of measurement data so that it is monitored in real-time. This research was made to build a website-based coastal wave height monitoring information system for wave height data display data from the measurement of the wave buoy instrument. This research was conducted by utilizing data from a wave height measuring instrument that was transmitted to an online database. Wave height data is displayed in the form of real-time data, real-time graphs with data sampling of 30 minutes, average data for one day, and average data for one month. Keywords: Wave height, system information, real-time

Abstract

Abstract

Coastal communities along the southern coast of Java are increasingly vulnerable to tsunami hazards due to active seismotectonic conditions in the Indian Ocean. This study presents a comprehensive numerical modeling analysis of the tsunami inundation map in the Ngadirojo coastal area of Ngadirojo Subdistrict, Pacitan Regency, East Java. The research objectives are to simulate potential tsunami scenarios, map inundation extents, and assess coastal vulnerability for disaster risk reduction planning. The Cornell Multi-grid Coupled Tsunami Model (COMCOT) is employed to simulate tsunami propagation and coastal inundation using high-resolution bathymetric and topographic data. The modeling incorporates nested grid systems with spatial resolutions ranging from 1250 m in deep ocean to 10 m in nearshore areas. The study provides a detailed analysis using numerical modeling techniques for predicting tsunami wave heights, inundation distances, and arrival times with a single earthquake source scenario of maximum magnitude Mw 8.8 in the Pacitan coastal region. Results indicate that tsunami waves could reach a maximum height of 16.4 m, with inundation extending up to 3.98 km inland and arrival times as short as 30 minutes. The derived tsunami hazard index highlights extensive high-risk zones along Soge and Taman Ngadirojo Beaches. The study provides essential scientific data to help local authorities develop effective evacuation strategies, early warning systems, and coastal protection measures, and significantly contributes to tsunami risk assessment methodologies for similar coastal environments in Indonesia and the Indo-Pacific region.

Abstract

The North Java shoreline, much like coastlines elsewhere in the world, continues to suffer the cumulative effects of coastal erosion and storm surge, and breakwaters remain the principal line of defense against this incoming wave energy. A substantial number of these structures, however, are still sized and shaped using generic rules of thumb instead of being calibrated to site-specific wave conditions and seabed characteristics, and the body of published work that tests breakwater configurations against actual North Java conditions is still limited. The present study closes part of that gap by applying a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation framework to examine how breakwater geometry, porosity, and layout govern hydrodynamic behavior under representative wave loading. The free surface and the wave-structure interaction were resolved using the Volume of Fluid (VOF) approach, paired with a turbulence closure model appropriate for free-surface flow. Over the course of the simulated runs, the configurations under investigation brought wave height down from 1.25 m to roughly 0.45 m by t = 20 s. The seaward face experienced its largest dynamic pressure, 38.7 kPa, at t = 10 s, a moment that also coincided with the highest overtopping velocity of 3.42 m/s, even as flow inside the sheltered zone fell to only 0.22 m/s, a rate low enough to let sediment settle out. A subsequent sensitivity analysis showed that raising porosity by 10% together with a gentler slope gradient lowered the peak structural pressure by as much as 15%, yielding design guidance with practical relevance for North Java and comparable coastal settings
