Ecological index and economic potential of mollusks (Gastropods and Bivalves) in Ayah Mangrove Forest, Kebumen District, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 24: 1231-1241. Mollusks are a group of triploblastic coelomates with soft bodies that live in various ecosystems, one of which is mangroves. This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the ecological index and economic potential in the mangrove forest of Ayah Village, Kebumen District, Central Java, Indonesia. First, the sampling method for each location using a transect plot measuring 10 x 10 m² was made. Mollusk species in each plot that had been obtained were then counted, collected, and recorded. Furthermore, abiotic variables such as water salinity, soil and water pH, and air, water and soil temperature, were measured. Then, the individuals and mollusk species that have been collected are calculated using ecological indices, such as the Shannon-Wiener biodiversity index, species density, Margalef species richness index, Evenness index, and Simpson dominance index. Meanwhile, the economic potential of the mollusk was searched using references from scientific journals and books. Finally, all data obtained were analyzed descriptively with supporting figures and tables. The results obtained 23 identified species of mollusk, i.e.: Gastropods (18 species) and Bivalves (5 species). The total density of mollusk obtained was 3.49 ind/m2, the species diversity index was 2.22 (moderate), the species evenness index was 0.71 (relatively even), the species dominant index was 0.16 (low), the species richness index was 2.71 (low). The environmental factors are as follow: temperature of air (30-30.3°C), water (28-29°C), soil/sediment (24-30°C), water pH 7.5-7.7, soil pH 7 and salinity 1-5 ppt. Of the total of 23 mollusks, 18 species could be consumed, i.e.: A. granosa, B. spirata, C. angulifera, C. aurisfelis, C. oualaniensis, E. aurisjudae, F. ater, L. scabra, N. lineata, N, violacea, N. dubia, P. viridis, P. cingulata, P. expansa, P. canaliculata, P. maculata, S. cucullata, and T. telescopium. The seven species of mollusks can be used as accessories, i.e.: B. spirata, N. lineata, P. cingulata, P. exilis, P. expansa, P. canaliculata, and P. maculata. Meanwhile, the mollusks used as decorations are as many as eleven, i.e.: A. granosa, B. spirata, C. corona, C. oualaniensis, N. margaritiferus, N. dubia, P. expansa, P. canaliculata, P. maculata, S. cucullata and V. turrita.

Species diversity and the spread of invasive fish in the Upper Bengawan Solo River, Central Java, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 25: 4000-4010. Bengawan Solo is the largest and longest river in Java, Indonesia, and has a major role in supporting the life of communities around it. To understand the quality of the Bengawan Solo River environment, the study can be done from physical, chemical, and biological aspects. This research was carried out to inventory the species and the spread of invasive fish found in the Upper Bengawan Solo River, Central Java, Indonesia. This research was conducted from November to December 2023 and settled on 5 sampling stations located on main body of Bengawan Solo River, including (i) northern spillway of Gajah Mungkur Reservoir, Wonogiri, (ii) Colo Reservoir, Sukoharjo, (iii) Demangan Floodgate, Surakarta, (iv) Tlumpuk, Karanganyar, and (v) Jati, Sragen. Data collection was performed using Visual Encounter Survey (VES) and direct catch with several fishing tools, collected species identified using iNaturalist, and several books such as Jenis Ikan Introduksi dan Invasif Asing di Indonesia, Ikan Air Tawar di Ekosistem Bukit Tigapuluh, Ensiklopedia Populer Ikan Air Tawar, and Baku Saku Pengolah Data Jenis Ikan. Identification also carried out by interviewing local people at study area location to match out vernacular names. The results showed 20 species of fish from 12 families were found, dominated by Cyprinidae. The most fish captured is tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), which can be obtained from all the sampling stations. A species with high conservation status according to IUCN Red List was also found, namely Rasbora lateristriata with Vulnerable (VU) status. As many as 6 species discovered were categorized as invasive, including snakehead fish (Channa striata), red devil fish (Amphilophus citrinellus), tilapia (O. niloticus), catfish (Clarias gariepinus), sailfin catfish (Pterygoplichthys pardalis), and guppy (Poecilia reticulata). Their invasive characteristics are usually due to their predatory trait, well adaptability, and high population. The introduction of invasive fish in the Upper Bengawan Solo River was caused by several reasons, such as intentional release for stocking population, escaping fish from nearby farms, and wild releases from fish keepers.

The community structure of Echinodermata (Echinoidea and Holothuroidea) on seagrass ecosystem in Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 25: 4561-4571. Echinoderms, which encompass various classes such as sea urchins and sea cucumbers, play a crucial role in marine ecosystems and contribute significantly to maintaining ecological balance. Therefore, this study was conducted to understand the composition structure of echinoderms (Echinoidea and Holothuroidea) in several beaches of Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The survey was conducted on March 2024 at Pringjono Beach, Dadap Ayam Beach, Ngrenehan Beach, Torohudan Beach, and Ngrawah Beach. Data analyzed included species diversity, density and ecological indices of echinoderms (Echinoidea and Holothuroidea) at each beach location. The research findings revealed that across the five beaches of Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, there were two classes of echinoderms, namely Echinoidea (sea urchins) and Holothuroidea (sea cucumbers), with a total of 7 identified species, namely Echinometra mathaei, Echinometra oblonga, Heterocentrotus trigonarius, Tripneustes gratilla, Colobocentrotus atratus, Stomopneustes variolaris, and Holothuria leucospilota. Only one beach recorded the presence of sea cucumbers, while the number of sea urchin species varied at each beach. Dadap Ayam Beach recorded the highest number of sea urchin species, followed by Ngrenehan Beach. Additionally, Dadap Ayam Beach exhibited higher values of species diversity and richness compared to other beaches. A total of seven echinoderm species were identified, with a total abundance of 367 individuals/1000 m2. The beaches in this study showed variations in the diversity and distribution of echinoderms, particularly Echinoidea and Holothuroidea. However, overall species diversity and richness values were generally low, indicating the potential vulnerability of these ecosystems.

Bamboo diversity, ecological structure, and utilization in the riparian ecosystem of the upper Bengawan Solo River, Central Java, Indonesia. Nusantara Bioscience 17: 259-276. Bamboo plays an important ecological and socio-economic role in tropical riparian landscapes, yet its spatial structure and environmental determinants remain poorly quantified. This study analyzed the diversity, composition, ecological dominance, and utilization of bamboo communities along the upstream–midstream–downstream gradient of the upper Bengawan Solo River, Central Java, Indonesia. Field surveys recorded five species—Bambusa spinosa, Dendrocalamus asper, Gigantochloa apus, G. atter, and G. atroviolacea—distributed unevenly across riparian zones. Diversity, species richness, and structural heterogeneity increased downstream, shifting from monodominant B. spinosa stands upstream to multi-species Gigantochloa assemblages in lowland alluvial areas. Importance Value Index (IVI) patterns revealed strong environmental filtering in the upstream zone, mixed natural–managed dominance midstream, and cultivation-enhanced coexistence downstream. Pearson correlation analysis indicated that soil moisture, canopy openness, and soil pH were the strongest predictors of diversity, whereas species dominance was shaped primarily by ecological traits and management intensity. Utilization patterns reflected a biocultural continuum, with D. asper and Gigantochloa spp. providing multipurpose materials for construction, food, handicrafts, and cultural practices, while B. spinosa served chiefly as an ecological stabilizer in upland slopes. The riparian bamboo system represents a socio-ecological mosaic shaped by hydrological gradients and community management. These findings highlight bamboo’s potential as a nature-based solution for riparian stabilization, biodiversity conservation, and livelihood support. Strengthening integrated, community-based bamboo management could enhance ecological resilience and sustainable riverine landscape governance in tropical regions.
