Abstract

Abstract

Bell's palsy is a sudden onset weakness of one side of the face due to damage to the facial nerve classified as a neurologicaldisorder. Typical changes in the face with Bell's palsy can hinder functional daily activities such as: eating, drinking, and talking to others. The alleged causes of Bell's palsy are vascular ischemic, viral, bacterial, hereditary, and immunological. Objective: to determine how physiotherapy management in Bell's palsy cases to improve facial motor function ability and facial muscle strength. Method: infra red, massage, and mirror exercise which is done for 3 times therapy. Result: there is an increase in facial motor function from T1 with a total score of 54 (moderate) increasing to T3 therapy with a total score of 70 (good) and an increase in facial muscle strength from T1 with a value of 1 increasing to T3 with a value of 3. Conclusion: Patients with the initials Mrs. L, 54 years old with a diagnosis of Bell's palsy sinistra after getting physiotherapy actions for 3 times obtained the results of an increase in facial motor functional abilities and increased facial muscle strength. Keywords: Bell’s palsy, infra red, massage, mirror exercise

Abstract

Background: Elderly is someone who has reached the age of 60 years and over. The aging process is a process that occurs in every person and cannot be avoided, where in the aging process itself there will be a decrease in anatomical and physiological functions such as a decrease in musculoskeletal function, a decrease in cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous system function. A decrease in these body systems will have an impact on the level of dynamic balance in the elderly, causing instability or balance disorders. With these problems, the risk of falls in the elderly will be higher. Objective: to determine the effect of Ankle Strategy Exercise on improvement of dynamic balance in the elderly. Method: This research uses a true-experimental one group pre and post test design with control method.Subjects: elderly in Timang Wetan, Wonokerto, Wonogiri, totaling 30 elderly subjects, of which 15 subjects were in the intervention group and 15 other subjects were in the control group. Each research subject underwent a balance test and measurements using the Time Up and Go Test (TUG Test) at the beginning before being given treatment and after being given treatment at the end of the study. Results: The pretest and post-test difference test using paired t-test showed the result p = 0 (p < 0.5) which means there is a change or influence. Conclusion: ankle strategy exercise has an effect on improving the dynamic balance of the elderly. Keywords: Ankle strategy exercise, Dynamic Balance, Elderly, Time Up and Go Test (TUG Test).

Abstract

Background: Non-specific neck pain is defined as pain in the posterior and lateral aspects of the neck between the superior nuchal line and the first thoracic spinous process without any signs or symptoms of structural pathology. Objectives: To determine which intervention is more effective between myofascial release and stretching in reducing pain in non-specific neck pain. Methods: This study employed a two-group pre-test and post-test design involving 30 respondents who were randomly assigned into two groups. Group I received myofascial release intervention, while Group II received stretching. Both interventions were administered three times per week for two weeks. Pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) before and after intervention. Data were analyzed using non-parametric tests: the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test for within-group comparisons and the Mann-Whitney U Test for between-group comparisons. Results: The Wilcoxon test showed significant differences between pre-test and post-test scores in both the myofascial release group (Z = -3.477; p < 0.001) and the stretching group (Z = -3.432; p < 0.001). The Mann-Whitney test indicated no significant difference in pre-test scores between groups (p = 0.839), but a significant difference was found in post-test scores (p = 0.009). Conclusion: Both myofascial release and stretching are effective in reducing pain in non-specific neck pain. However, myofascial release is more effective compared to stretching. Abstract

Background: Postural control plays a major role in maintaining postural adjustment during daily activities. Calculating body position should be precisely accurate toward gravitational forces to maintain neutral body alignment. Neutral body alignment is influenced by postural muscle activation and kinematics. In static positions, such as standing and sitting, there are different lumbo-pelvic kinematics. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare lumbar extensor activation during three static positions: standing, sitting on a chair, and sitting on the floor. Methods: this study uses cross sectional observational method 15 healthy subject was randomly recruited during this observational study, performing three static positions, standing, sitting on a chair and sitting on the floor while Surface Electromyograph (sEMG) placed on erector spine in lumbar segment, we recorded muscle activation on EMG monitor in those three static positions and compared to each static positions. Results: sEMG activation erector spine data in this study showed erector spine muscle activation increased during standing was 12.95 ± 0.94 µV, sitting on a chair was 2.63 ± 0.82 µV and sitting on the floor with mean erector spine activation was 2.63 ± 0.82 µV, in one way ANOVA between and within Group was p < 0.001. Conclusion: erector spine muscle activation during standing are greater than sitting on a chair with mean differences value was 5.6 µV and erector spine muscle activation during sitting on a chair are greater than sitting on the floor with flexed knee with mean differences was 4.62 µV.
