Abstract

Introduction: Dental and oral health problems in Central Java province are still high, namely 73.4% of children aged 10-14 years, and are ranked 22nd province in Indonesia. Nutritional status, oral hygiene, and diet can cause dental caries in children. Several studies report a relationship between nutritional status and dental caries. This study aims to describe and analyze the relationship between nutritional status and the occurrence of dental caries in elementary school-aged children at Wonosaren State Elementary School. Method: This research is an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional approach. This research was carried out in August-September 2023. The sample was selected using stratified random sampling of 100 research subjects. Nutritional status was measured using the BMI/Age technique, obtained from anthropometric weight and height measurements. Weight is measured using a step scale, and height is measured using a microtome. A dental caries examination is carried out by inspection and dental condition. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Program for Social Science (SPSS) version 25. It was analyzed using the Pearson correlation test to determine the relationship between nutritional status and the occurrence of dental caries. Results are declared significant if p<0.05. Results: Pearson correlation test showed no relationship between nutritional status (BMI/U) and dental caries (p=0.179). Conclusion: There is no relationship between nutritional status and the occurrence of dental caries in elementary school-aged children at SD Negeri Wonosaren.

Abstract

The world of education is currently developing very rapidly. This rapid development is in line with the development of technology and information. The diversity of information technology requires improvements in the quality and service mechanisms in the field of education to be more effective. The development of information technology requires higher education institutions to continue to innovate in academic service systems. One form of this innovation is the implementation of the Academic Information System (SIAKAD) which is able to integrate various academic services digitally. This study aims to analyze the user experience of two versions of SIAKAD used at the Faculty of Tarbiyah UIN Ar-Raniry, namely the old SIAKAD and the new SIAKAD (Sevima), using the User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) approaches. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method with a questionnaire instrument based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which includes perceptions of usefulness, ease of use, and user satisfaction. A total of 32 student respondents were involved in completing the questionnaire. The results showed that the new SIAKAD (Sevima) received a satisfaction level of 76%, included in the "Satisfied" category on the Likert scale. These findings show that a friendlier UI and more optimal UX in the new SIAKAD have a positive impact on user comfort and effectiveness in carrying out academic activities. This research recommends the development of more responsive features that meet user needs, such as adding the option to download active student certificates independently through the system.

Abstract

Introduction: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disorder that commonly presents with oral manifestations, including xerostomia, mucosal ulcerations, dental caries, and periodontitis. Periodontitis, characterized by progressive destruction of tooth-supporting tissues, is frequently aggravated by inadequate oral hygiene practices. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between oral hygiene maintenance and periodontal health in patients diagnosed with SLE. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional correlation design. It involved 100 participants, comprising 50 SLE patients and 50 healthy controls subjects, recruited through purposive sampling. Periodontal health was assessed using the Community Periodontal Index (CPI). Oral hygiene maintenance behavior was assessed using a self-administered structured questionnaire, adapted and modified from the Hiroshima University–Dental Behavioral Inventory (HU-DBI). Differences in community periodontal index between the SLE and control groups were analyzed using a Mann-Whitney test. The relationship between oral hygiene behaviors and CPI scores was examined using Spearman’s rank correlation test. Results: The results revealed that SLE patients exhibited poorer oral hygiene knowledge, attitudes, and practices compared to healthy controls subjects, along with significantly worse periodontal health (p < 0.05). Furthermore, Spearman’s rank correlation test showed significant negative correlations between oral hygiene maintenance behaviors and CPI scores in the SLE group (r = - 0.156, p < 0.05; r = - 0.148, p < 0.05; r = - 0.148, p < 0.05, respectively) indicating that patients who practiced better oral hygiene tended to have lower CPI scores and, consequently, healthier periodontal status. Conclusion: Improved oral hygiene practices are significantly correlated with enhanced periodontal health in patients with SLE. These findings underscore the importance of emphasizing effective oral hygiene measures as part of comprehensive periodontal management strategies for SLE patients.
