Abstract

Spodoptera frugiperda is an invasive insect and includes a highly polyphagous insect that can attack various types of plants. Armyworm attacks can be a severe threat to corn farmers. It can cause significant yield loss. This study aims to determine the attack intensity and distribution of the S. frugiperda armyworm in several sub-districts on several varieties of maize in Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi, as the first step in determining an appropriate control strategy. The results showed that from the five sub-districts where the observations were made, there were symptoms of S. frugiperda attack, namely in the sub-districts of South Polongbangkeng, North Polongbangkeng, Sanrobone, South Galesong, and Pattallassang. The highest attack intensity was around 97.33% of 4 weeks in Pallantikang Village, Pattallassang District. The lowest attack intensity, namely 46.44% of 3 weeks, was found in Kadatong Village, South Galesong District.

Abstract

Endophytic fungi have the potential as biocontrol agents against bacterial leaf blight caused by a Xanthomonas oryzae pv Oryzae to support environmentally friendly agriculture. This study aims to select endophytic fungal isolates that have the potential as biocontrol agents against bacterial leaf blight. This research was divided into 3 stages: 1) isolation and rejuvenation of endophytic fungi isolate; 2) antagonistic test of endophytic fungi isolates against Xoo bacteria in vitro; 3) in vivo test of endophytic fungi isolates which are antagonistic in rice plants. As many as 16 isolates of endophytic fungi were isolated and rejuvenated, 6 isolates of endophytic fungi were antagonistic in vitro tests, the application of endophytic fungi isolates on rice plants was able to increase the resistance of rice plant highly susceptible, susceptible, moderately susceptible to moderately resistant, moderately susceptible and susceptible.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out how the use of MURDER strategy can improve students' reading comprehension at SMP Islam 2 Kota Ternate. The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) to conduct this research. There were 22 students as a subject. There were two cycles, each cycle consisted of two meetings. Based on the description of the research results and discussion, it was concluded that implementing the MURDER strategy can improve students' reading comprehension. In the first cycle, only two students achieve a passing grade, meaning 90.9% of students studying at the SMP Islam 2 Kota Ternate failed the passing exam. In the second cycle, however, only 13.63% of students failed to get a passing grade. This means that in the second cycle, 19 students met the success criteria and only 3 students did not yet meet the success criteria. This means that the reading comprehension of students at SMP Islam 2 Kota Ternate has improved significantly compared to the reading literacy teaching and learning process before the implementation of the MURDER. strategy.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine whether translating narrative texts could enhance students' English vocabulary. The study identified that students struggled with English largely due to limited vocabulary, which hindered their ability to form responses and led to frustration and hesitation. Despite ongoing efforts, teachers had not effectively addressed this issue or engaged students in meaningful, interactive activities. To address this, the researchers implemented translation activities involving narrative texts to improve vocabulary acquisition. This qualitative descriptive study involved 20 eighth-grade students from SMP Negeri 47 Halmahera Selatan, out of a population of 98. Data were collected through tests, observations, and interviews, and analyzed using data reduction, display, and conclusion-drawing techniques. Results showed that 13 of the 20 students scored above average. Specifically, 2 students achieved perfect scores, 5 received good scores, 6 obtained satisfactory scores, and 7 scored below average. The study found that using narrative text translation activities to develop students' vocabulary was effective, achieving a 65% improvement rate.
