Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between tahfizh Al-Qur’an practices and the Living Al-Qur’an framework at Muhammadiyah Boarding School (MBS) Ki Bagus Hadikusumo, Jampang, Bogor. Living Al-Qur’an is understood as a phenomenon in which the Qur’an is not merely read but embedded into santri’s daily routines through sustained engagement that integrates classical sanad transmission with contemporary supporting tools. Using a qualitative field-research design, primary data were collected through participant observation and in-depth interviews with caregivers, teachers, and santri, supplemented by documentation of school records, curricula, and memorization achievements, then analyzed through data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. Findings show that tahfizh instruction proceeds through tahsin-tashih, ziyadah, and muraja’ah stages, supported by talaqqi-musyafahah, takrir-tikrar, sabaq-sabqi-manzil, and sima’i methods, all managed through disciplined time allocation and routine evaluation so that memorization targets remain achievable alongside a full national curriculum and extracurricular commitments. The study demonstrates that Living Al-Qur’an can thrive within a modern dual-curriculum boarding school, offering a replicable model and policy implications for inclusive Islamic education that balances religious depth with academic excellence.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the problem of differing semantic orientations in the attribution of the term bayt (house) to women in the Qur'an, which appears uniform superficially yet reveals contradictory meanings when analyzed semantically and rhetorically. Previous studies have generally approached this expression from the perspectives of Islamic jurisprudence and gender studies, while largely overlooking its underlying linguistic construction. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze the semantic and rhetorical dimensions of this attribution and to examine its interpretation in Tafsīr al-Marāghī. This study employs a qualitative library-based research method. It integrates semantic analysis, balāghah (Arabic rhetoric), and manāhij al-tafsīr (Qur'anic exegesis methodologies). The study demonstrates that the attribution of bayt in Q. 33:33 embodies the rhetorical dimension of tasyrīf (honorification) through the structure of iḍāfah (direct attribution). This structure establishes a particular relationship (ikhtiṣāṣ) between women and the domestic sphere, portraying it as a symbol of dignity and stability. In contrast, the absence of iḍāfah in Q. 4:15 generates a restrictive meaning that functions as a mechanism of social control, whereby bayt no longer signifies honor but rather functions as a means of confinement and social control in response to moral transgression. These findings demonstrate that the term bayt exhibits a dynamic and context-sensitive range of meanings rather than embodying a substantive contradiction. From the perspective of Tafsīr al-Marāghī, this study underscores the importance of an integrative approach that combines linguistic analysis with contextual interpretation in the study of Qur'anic exegesis.
