Abstract

Uji acceptabilitas menunjukkan ekstrak etanolik herba ashitaba cocok dibuat sediaan lotion. Abstract

Duwet fruit (Syzygium cumini) is a local Indonesian fruit that has many benefits. Duwet juice contains antioxidants that have DPPH free radical activity. But the use of duwet fruit is not practical for modern society. This research was conducted to formulate duwet juice into a gel-based carbopol 940 with the physical quality test of the gel. Duwet fruit extraction was tested for phytochemical screening qualitatively. The gel is made in 5 formulas namely I (100% aquadest: 0% ethanol 70%); II (75% aquadest: 25% ethanol 70%); III (50% aquadest: 50% ethanol 70%); IV (25% aquadest: 75% ethanol 70%); and V (0% aquadest: 100% ethanol 70%). The results showed that Duwet juice contained of flavonoid, polyphenols, and anthocyanins based on phytochemical screening tests. The formula of gel I, II, and III has fulfilled the pH requirements of 4.5-6.5, homogeneity, and spread capacity of 5-7 cm. Increasing the concentration of 70% ethanol in the gel formula will increase the pH value and spread capacity.

Abstract

Tekelan (C. odorata) contains phenolic compounds that play an important role in wound healing. The potential of C. odorata leaves as a wound healer needs to be developed through the formulation of ointment to facilitate its use. The selection of ointment base will affect the effectiveness. The aim of this study was to determine the physical stability of ointment from C. odorata leaf extract on varios types of bases. The ointment of C. odorata leaf extract with four types of bases, i.e hydrocarbon base (F1), adsorption base (F2), washable base (F3), and water soluble base (F4) were tested for stability using mechanichal method and freeze-thaw cycle. Mechanichal stability test was carried out by centrifuging the samples at a speed 3750 rpm for 30 menutes, while the freeze-thaw cycle test was carried out for 12 days (6 cycles). The physical properties of ointment i.e organoleptics, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, and sticky power before and after the test were compared by ANOVA. The result of mechanichal test of ointment showed that there is no separation in all types of bases. Stability test by freeze-thaw cycle method indicated a change of homogeneity and organoleptic of F1 and F2. Spreadability of all formulas was not significantly different before and after the freeze-thaw cycle, while the stable sticky power only occurred at F4 (p-value=0.523). Formula F4 which is an ointment of C. odorata leaf extract with a water soluble base has the best stability among other bases.

Abstract

Brucea javanica seeds hold promise as a powerful antioxidant source, boasting a high phenol content (61.1927±0.1560 mg GAE/g sample) and an IC50 value of 64,703 ppm. However, the inherent polar and bulky nature of these phenols limits their absorption in the body, hindering their effectiveness. This research introduces phytosomes, a potential solution, derived from Brucea javanica seed extract. The phytosomes are prepared using sonication and thin-film hydration techniques, with optimized parameters for phospholipid concentration, processing speed, and rotary evaporator temperature. Different ratios of phospholipid to Brucea javanica extract (1:1, 1:2, 1:3, and 2:1) are evaluated to determine the optimal phytosome formulation. Encapsulation efficiency serves as the primary parameter for selection. Finally, the most promising phytosome is characterized for particle size, polydispersity index, vesicle morphology, and the complexity of the formed compounds using infrared spectroscopy. This study strives to develop an optimal phytosome formulation from Brucea javanica seeds with superior absorption, aiming to enhance the antioxidant's pharmacological effects and open new avenues in the healthcare field. Keywords:          Brucea javanica, antioxidants, phenols, phytosomes, hydration of thin films   Abstrak Biji Brucea javanica kaya fenol (61,1927±0,1560 mg GAE/g sampel) dengan nilai IC50 64,703 ppm. Efisiensi penjerapan menjadi parameter utama.
