Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of self-acceptance in mediating the influence of gratitude and social support on subjective well-being. The sample criteria include mothers who have children with special needs, specifically those with children aged 1 to 12 years. The total number of samples used was 102 participants. The sampling technique employed was purposive sampling. The instruments used to measure the subjective well-being variables were the SWLS (Satisfaction with Life Scale) and PANAS (Positive Affect Negative Affect Schedule). The gratitude variable was measured using the Gratitude Questionnaire (GQ-6), while social support was assessed using the MSPSS (Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support). Self-acceptance was measured using the Porter Parent Acceptance Scale (PPAS). Data analysis was conducted in the form of mediation analysis using JASP version 18.3. The results showed that self-acceptance significantly mediated the influence of gratitude and social support on subjective well-being. The magnitude of the influence of gratitude and social support on self-acceptance was 63.7%, while the combined influence of gratitude, social support, and self-acceptance on subjective well-being was 97.4%. This indicates that the role of gratitude and social support, with the mediation of self-acceptance, is substantial in shaping subjective well-being for mothers who have children with special needs. The findings of this study are also recommended for the development of counseling guidance science by emphasizing mothers' self-acceptance to foster positive subjective well-being.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the relationship between family social support and critical thinking abilities among students at SMK Kriya Sahid Sukoharjo. This quantitative research involved 111 eleventh-grade students and utilized a Likert scale for data collection on the variables of family social support and critical thinking. Data analysis using Spearman’s correlation indicated a highly significant relationship between family social support and critical thinking, with a correlation coefficient of rs=0.788 and a p-value of <0.000. The reliability test for the critical thinking scale showed a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.951, indicating a very high level of reliability. Furthermore, family social support contributed 55.6% to the variability in students' critical thinking abilities, while other factors accounted for 44.4%. This study underscores the importance of family social support in enhancing critical thinking skills, which are essential in education to prepare students for future challenges. The findings advocate for the integration of family support strategies in educational programs to maximize students' critical thinking potential. Keyword: Critical Thinking, Family Support

Abstract

Emotional pressures experienced by fatherless adolescents such as low self-confidence and loneliness highlight the importance of environmental support in helping them continue to develop positively. In this context, social support serves as a key factor that strengthens an individual's ability to cope and enhances their self-perception. This study aims to examine the influence of social support on self-esteem, with resilience as a mediating variable among fatherless adolescents in Semarang City. The subjects were adolescents aged 15–17 years who were experiencing fatherless conditions, selected using purposive sampling. This research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, collecting data through psychological scales and analyzing it using path analysis. The results showed that social support has a positive and significant effect on both resilience and self-esteem (p < 0.05), and resilience was found to mediate the relationship between social support and self-esteem. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination indicated that social support and resilience together contribute approximately 31% to self-esteem. In other words, the higher the social support received, the stronger the resilience developed, which in turn leads to improved self-esteem among fatherless adolescents.
