Abstract

This study examines the early development and modernization of Islamic education in the Ottoman Empire and Andalusia, focusing on educational institutions, curricula, teaching methods, and socio-political contexts. Islamic education in both regions displayed diverse practices through formal institutions such as madrasahs, Rüşdye Mektebi, ribāṭ, and informal settings like mosques and tekkes. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with literature and historical document analysis, including primary sources such as Evliya Çelebi’s Seyahatname and biographical accounts of intellectuals like al-Yuḥānisī, and secondary sources comprising scholarly articles and books on classical Islamic education. Findings indicate that the Ottoman education system emphasized structured curricula and early modern schools, while Andalusian education integrated religious and rational sciences with experiential learning such as riḥla (educational travel). Both regions benefited from financial support (waqf), social stability, and the role of intellectuals, although access for women and marginalized groups remained limited. The study underscores the relevance of classical Islamic educational models for contemporary education, highlighting the integration of formal and non-formal learning, multidiscipline curricula, and attention to socio-economic factors. These findings offer insights for modern Islamic educational practices aiming for holistic, inclusive, and contextual learning experiences.

Abstract

Background: Learning motivation is a crucial factor influencing students’ academic success, particularly in Islamic Religious Education, which is often perceived as monotonous. Low learning motivation among seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 32 Satu Atap Kaur highlights the need for innovative instructional strategies to create an engaging learning environment. Objective: This study aims to examine the effect of icebreaking activities on improving students’ learning motivation in Islamic Religious Education subjects. Method: The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) across two cycles. Data were collected using learning motivation questionnaires and classroom observations. Result: The average student motivation score in the pre-cycle stage was 60.5, with classical completeness reaching only 30%. After implementing icebreaking activities in Cycle I, the average score increased to 68.7, with classical completeness improving to 60%. In Cycle II, the use of more varied, interactive icebreaking activities further increased the average motivation score to 80.2, with classical completeness reaching 90%. These findings demonstrate that icebreaking activities are effective in enhancing students’ learning motivation, fostering a positive classroom atmosphere, and encouraging active participation. Conclusion: Regular integration of icebreaking activities can significantly improve student motivation in Islamic Religious Education. Contribution: This study provides practical insights for teachers on implementing innovative, student-centered learning strategies.

Abstract

This study investigates the moral challenges emerging from the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the context of Islamic Religious Education (PAI). The research is motivated by growing concerns related to declining empathy, reduced social interaction, digital dependence, and the spread of unverified religious information among students. The purpose of this study is to analyze the phenomenon of value degradation influenced by AI, identify potential moral risks, and formulate strategies for strengthening Islamic character education in the digital era. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with library research methods, data were collected from reputable books, journal articles, and academic reports published within the last five years. The data were analyzed through the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by triangulation of sources to test validity. The findings show that AI has ambivalent effects: it provides learning efficiency and digital access to Islamic resources, yet simultaneously weakens students’ reflective thinking, independence, spiritual awareness, and moral responsibility. The study also identifies critical risks such as misinformation, diminished self-control, erosion of discipline, and moral disorientation caused by excessive reliance on intelligent technologies. Furthermore, Islamic character education is found to play a strategic role in counterbalancing these risks through the reinforcement of core Islamic values, digital Islamic literacy, teacher role modeling, and ethical integration of AI in learning. The study concludes that strengthening Islamic character education is essential to prevent moral crises and guide students in using AI responsibly and ethically.

Abstract

The abstract is written in one paragraph containing at least the objectives, methods, and results of the study. This study aims to describe the implementation of religious character education at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri 2 Bengkulu City and the factors that influence it. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The research subjects consisted of the madrasah principal, teachers, and students who were selected purposively based on their involvement in religious activities. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The validity of the data was tested using triangulation of sources and techniques. The results of the study indicate that religious character education is implemented through various habituation activities such as dhuha prayer, congregational prayer, reciting prayers before and after studying, as well as the habituation of discipline and politeness in the madrasah environment. Teachers play an important role as role models in the formation of students' religious character, supported by a religious madrasah environment. However, several obstacles were still found, such as a lack of student discipline, a lack of respect for teachers, and inconsistent implementation of the habituation. This shows that the implementation of religious character education has been running but is not yet optimal and still requires strengthening cooperation between teachers, parents, and the environment..
