Abstract

Anemia remains a common health problem among adolescent girls and may lead to decreased learning concentration, reduced immune function, and lower productivity. Adolescent girls are at a higher risk of anemia due to blood loss during menstruation and various contributing factors, including behavioral and psychological aspects. Several factors suspected to be associated with anemia in adolescent girls include eating disorders, body image, and stress levels. This study aimed to determine the relationship between eating disorders, body image, and stress levels with the risk of anemia among adolescent girls at SMA Negeri 4 Palu. This research employed a cross-sectional. The study population consisted of 81 female students from grades X and XI, with the entire population included in the sample using a total sampling technique. Data collection involved the use of an eating disorder questionnaire, a body image questionnaire, the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10), and hemoglobin level assessments. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate methods, specifically the chi-square test. The results indicated no significant association between eating disorders and the risk of anemia (p=0.401), nor between body image and the risk of anemia (p=0.746). Conversely, a significant association was found between stress levels and the risk of anemia (p<0.001). The study concluded that stress levels were associated with the risk of anemia among adolescent girls, whereas eating disorders and body image were not statistically significantly associated with anemia.
